The last time i used free rom sites like this i had to wait a queue and deal with those anti-spam questions just to download a single rom of few kilobytes.

They are useful in some instances where you need a very specific ROM for some reason and you don't want to bother with torrents or private trackers that offer huge packs and complete collections, sure. But there is no way to build that fancy Hyperspin/Launchbox setup by using sites like Emuparadise.

    @Soulis

    That would be CoolRomz.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

Why do you think publishers are desperate to render used sales impossible?

Neovamp: No I'm not talking about torrents, more about what might be the next alternative.

    Whatever that is .

Sik: What are you referring to specifically? My finger's not on the pulse of these things.

Nintendo is never going to clean the internet of roms. They might as well be trying to swim upstream in a flood.

I agree with that, but I think the free for all has gone and it'll get more challenging to find stuff.

I’m sure that just among the regulars here, we have most of those EmuParadise roms and the means to distribute them to each other.

Edit: I mean, we don’t and we won’t. Disregard this post.

Can't rep you! This is the kind of thing I'm on about: ROMs for all will be replaced by ROMs for those who have built up collections and can share them in a community fashion.

We won't of course, as has been mentioned!

I think the only ROM I ever downloaded was an ISO for an unreleased Dreamcast game for Geist Force. Then later found the Assembler version on eBay and bought it.

    Life?!...What console is that on?

    Remake Geist Force!

    Question

I can't stop thinking about DP's rap songs lol.

The first lines of the first song are so lame lol. "Did I hear you right? Did I hear you sayin'? / You wanna make a copy of the game you were playin'? / Come on guyyyyyyyyys!"

And in the 2nd vid: What were the kids doing lol. The boy hosted his own website, plus he burned stacks of burned discs. For what? I thought file-sharing sites are without money involved? Are there file-sharing sites that people pay for? It doesn't seem possible when there are free sites. And how was he selling discs if anyone could just download it themselves? Including from his own site? It just makes no sense lol.

Then the girl had thousands of dollars for hosting her own site without any explanation, but she got arrested. Too ridiculous for the video to even try to explain lol.

It's such a fictional version of file-sharing. Could the creators have been so out-of-touch that they thought kids are making money hosting their own file-sharing sites and selling burned copies of things to their friends?

Was this ever a trend in real life, and I just never knew about it?

So you've never played Propeller Arena on the DC? You're missing out. Also its thanks to EmuParadise that I've been able to play the Model 2, Model 3 Arcade games SEGA never ported and also enjoy the likes of Return of Death Adder. Thanks for nothing Nintendo...

It's a long read, but you may enjoy this article.

If you were around in the 90s it's an amazingly in depth look at how piracy worked on both the digital and physical level back then.

tl;dr: Yes, people sold burned discs and made huge amounts of money off it.
