Initially, I used A because I noticed that, in debug mode, only A jumps. Outside of debug mode, I currently use B, just because of its more comfortable position. I am considering switching back to A for the aforementioned reason, though.

But C is also used to jump in debug mode o.O (in fact it's the only way to jump in Sonic 3 / & Knuckles, since A is used to flip gravity).

I always used ‘A’ simply because it’s the first button, both in terms of physical position and alpha-numerical denomination. Perhaps there’s some OCD influence in there somewhere.

I confused it with the other mode, in which C places the currently selected object.

    C. Always C. I can't not use C. Generally, I feel the need to use it as jump in any game, but especially a Sonic one.

    This is just confusing.

Same here. Including changing the control scheme so I jump with C if the game has a different scheme.

It makes a weird sort of sense to me, based on the geometry/ergonomics of the two pads. C is the most comfortable/accessible button on the 3-button, while B is the natural place for your thumb to rest on the 6-button.

That's about all I could figure, but I'll take your word for it. I probably haven't touched a 3-button in a good 15 years.

I'll generally do that even if it's a game where it's in my best interest not to do it. Both of the other buttons are actions I might want to use while jumping? Tough shit, gotta be C.

If we want to talk about ergonomics, I can't help but think that Sega may have missed a huge opportunity by arranging ABC in a row instead of a triangle (the latter would make all three buttons easy to access).

The hidden one on the back. Ha-ha

I guess the B but really can B any one of them that's close to the thumb when needed on the Mega Fire or original three buttons.

I've always used the C button to jump in Sonic games.

A, that's the closest button to relaxed state for my thumb. C is the least used one, most uncomfy position to put the thumb to.

    My man!

Also always hit "A". It was always more comfortable for me.
