Genesis Lots of recent releases o.o

And by "recent" I mean this month. Feel free to correct me if I got some date wrong but:

    • 2018-08-01: Star J
    • 2018-08-08: Little Medusa (Mega Drive port)
    • 2018-08-13: Rad Rhino
    • 2018-08-14: Tanglewood

And aside for Rad Rhino (which is a free ROM download), the rest are all cartridge releases. Oh, and there's also Hardcore finally going to get a release, although I really wish we had either Mega Drive cartridges or ROMs instead of being locked to PS4 and Vita. This month is packed.

PS: shameless plug, but here's a summary of the current state of Mega Drive homebrew.

Maybe I'll dig something mostly finished out of the trashbin of my projects folder just to add to the list of August releases! God, there are a few things I really really just need to finish.

Little Medusa Genesis is pretty much the definitive version too. SNES looks slightly better with its bigger palettes, but Genesis sounds better and runs a bit smoother.

Nah, just that the game got lots of attention during the kickstarter campaign. Xeno Crisis is another one of those, for instance. I don't think many people here have heard of the other three games (aside maybe Little Medusa if they also followed NES games) but probably a good chunk here has heard of Tanglewood.

"Notorious" as in "biggest", I guess.

That use of 'notorious' usually only applies to overweight rappers.

I'm sorry to take the thread off topic, its just that notorious normally means that something or someone is well known for negative reasons. It made me wonder if Tanglewood became known for something bad along the way. Thanks for the game list, I hadn't previously been aware of them except Tanglewood.

Well, in both spanish ( in Sik's case ) and portuguese the word "notório" is commonly used to describe something or someone 'generally known and talked of', 'popular' etc, so that's why it made sense for him to use the word "notorious" in that case.

The fact that "notorious" is an adjective more commonly used in the english language as a derogatory term is quite interesting to know actually.

Yeap...notorious or infamous either essentially means the same in English.

Would have been better to say famous or well known in Sik's case but I too understood what he ultimately meant.

It's the same with the word "eventually", which has the same meaning as "finally" in English, but as "possibly" in other languages.

Oh yeah. The many recent releases may have something to do with the 30th anniversary coming up soon, I guess.

For more language tidbits: "discussion" in English has the implied tone of simply chatting, but "discusión" in Spanish is often used to refer to mean angry arguing. Anyway, edited the blog post now.

Not sure if the anniversary has much to do with it (Tanglewood landed on the US anniversary, but we only learned on launch day, it was pure coincidence). I think it's a mix of all the kickstarters at the end of 2016 and PlayOnRetro and Mega Cat Studios showing up to do Mega Drive publishing in 2017. Oh, and after the Paprium mess the ex-Watermelon staff is now moving onto working on their own projects. That more or less is filling in a gap that Watermelon and SFT had left behind and now it's also having the side effect to encourage more people to do homebrew (basically feedback :v).

Now all we need is a good clone (not the crap being released so far) and we'll be talking real business.

True, it's been a boom in later years. I meant the releases this autumn are timed with the anniversary a bit, but yeah, I may be wrong. By the way, I wonder if SFT are gonna celebrate it somehow, they haven't released anything for the Mega Drive in 3 years or so.

A good clone, why not? Maybe next year .

I played a bit of Star J demo back then and thought it was a bit cluncky though quite impressive for a one-man homebrew effort. SegaTim was pissed that nobody seemed to want to publish his game and in the end 1985alternativo created a label for sort-of self-publishing efforts and that how you get to have it on cart. My guess is those won't be EEPROMs but flash chips, but still.

Little Medusa is also good, more polished, it's an 8-bit game though: my Blast Processor yawns at me at the end of each level
