Looks rubbish and like a Flash game

^ it was my first thought too...
Now I don't want to ruin the enthusiasm, on the contrary, but it's just that such games look better in my opinion with a 16 or 32-bit look.
And the sound too can have a 16/32-bit feel, with some kickass FM music and great PCM sound effects
Ye, exactly, I want this game to be developed for the Saturn! I guess it won't happen though xD
Anyway I'm still curious about how it will turn out.
I'm not ready to write it off as a flash game. Sure it looks crisp, vibrate and sharp... which is good, but it also doesn't look loose and floaty (from what little we can see).
It looks very much like the remake of Dragon's Trap (with good reason) and that remake is perfect.
I am very excited about this news.
Sega is doing stuff with their old IPs. That is all kinds of awesome.
The hand-drawn aesthetic worked perfectly with Dragon's Trap. I'm not sure it's the best style for Streets of Rage, though. But at least they got Sega to let them use the IP.
Yeah, I know what you mean. This is not a guaranteed win. But the mechanics/physics of the game should not be affected by 'hand drawn art' vs. 'pixel art'.
Here's hoping they capture the right feel for the game. Walking around can't feel too floaty. Punches need to feel like there's a real connection.
We'll see...
I haven't played it, but the Dragon's Trap remake is well regarded, so I'm hopeful about this as it's by the same developers.
I think some people expect too much of modern 2D games. If the games do more than 8/16-bit style pixel art they get accused of looking like "flash games", but the alternative is that the games simply don't get made at all. Hyper-detailed, "realistic", fluid, 2D animation is too expensive. That's one of the reasons we don't get traditionally animated Disney movies any more. Corners have to be cut somewhere, so the choices tend to be pixel art, blobby and/or heavily stylised art, cel-shaded 3D on a 2D plane, or clean looking but less detailed. Games like Cuphead are the exception, and graphics like those wouldn't work for Streets of Rage.
This is a franchise that hasn't seen a new game in 24 years; we're lucky to be getting anything at all.

I looked on it as a remake, but like with SF II High Def, I hated the hand-drawn 2D gfx compared to the original pixel art, but it was just a remake.
This is meant to be a sequel and other than the SOR name it looks nothing like the classic series and then to have SEGA Japan or Ancient not develop it (with 2D pixel art Saturn, Neo Geo style) is just a letdown. It looks like a typical SEGA Sammy mobile phone game and cashing in on the IP. I hate Sammy and what they have done to SEGA Japan

This is incredible. I also find interesting how much attention it's getting over at /v/ right now.
