It's actually one of the few 32Megabit games

The intro video probably eats up much of those 32 MEGA POWER.

Sorry but I really don't think Vectorman can be compared favourably to DKC at all,

DKC looks a little dated with it's digitised graphics now but they still look pretty good, not terrible.

I always thought that Vectorman's graphics were abysmal, I know it has very impressive lighting and everything but to me the game actually looks worse than 90% of the games on the Mega Drive, it is one of the ugliest games i've ever seen.

Vectorman does however play quite well, it can be a bit cheap at times and does rely on memorisation sometimes but it's a fun game.

DKC is a great game, really fluid and enjoyable, fast gameplay, I like the way that seasoned DKC players can get through levels very quickly in an impressive looking way.

I also find it funny that Miyamoto says it has no gameplay seeing as the game is pretty much a carbon copy of Mario World, with some elements of Mario 3 and barrels. But then Japanese people always seem to bad mouth any non-Japanese made game anyway

I don't care of either much, but Vectorman looks more interesting in the gameplay department. DKC was just *boring* after the first 10% of the game. I beat it a week after release and it left me wondering what the hell was up with all the hype. A mediocre game at best with pretty graphics.

To me, Vectorman always felt too "zoomed in" if that makes any sense. I always found myself literally running into enemies because I just couldn't see ahead. Its certainly impressive from a technical perspective, but the lack of view just kills it. I f'n love DKC though, definitely a top 5 SNES game, I don't even know how anyone can call it mediocre. Aside from the great graphics (though completely superficial from a technical perspective) and awesome (and fitting) music, there is just so much to do: 2 different characters with different abilites, lots of gameplay variety via barrel/rope/mine cart puzzles, and just a great cohesiveness overall. It's certainly slow compared to anything on the Genesis, but this is one SNES game that I think came out just fine.

X-Perts was meant as DKC competitor, not Vectorman; the problem was that development went on in snail-speed and it was delayed until it was much too late; not to mention how shitty the game was.

I feel no symphathy for the designers, the producer just uses cheap excuses.

I've always found Vectorman 1 & 2 to be very ugly looking. I imagine that fans of its visuals are also very impressed by the Ballz games. What's the point of using a bunch of special effects around a bunch of non-graphics? Gunstar Heroes is a nice looking Genesis game with a ton of neat effects.

I don't like the art style of DKC, but at least it resembles something recognizable, let alone looks like a real 16-bit console game.

I suppose you hate Rez too because the main character and basically everything else are made of vectors?

Vectorman was a decent platformer but it lacked in the replayability department, so I had swapped it for another cart back in the day. The music was decent though, a then-fresh change from the "fruity" tunes of most other platformers. Vec is one of the few classics BlueSky churned out during their long run in the industry, with Shadowrun possibly being their ultimately best offering.

The most impressive looking Genesis game by far is Comix Zone. That game blew me away in 1997. It was the last new game I bought for the Genesis and I tell you that Comix Zone destroys donkey kong country and vectorman (though I do love vectorman). Amazing game that.

A friend of mine who collects nintendo just picked up DKC and so I have been playing it a lot lately. I do think it is a pretty fun platformer, there is nothing that impressive about the graphics but they are nice, kinda like cool spot. The gameplay gets pretty challenging in the later levels but starts off overly easy. I did not like how you can't have two players playing simiultaneous, you have to go one at a time. The music is rich but starts to sound like boreing samples after a while.

Comparing the graphics to vectorman I thought the ice level in vectorman had way better background than the ice levels in DKC. I would say I like the vectorman graphics a tiny bit better. The DK graphics have excellent colours but some of the levels were kinda bland, just forest backdrop. I liked the sunset BG in one level in DK but a lot of the stages in DK didn't really stand out that much. The one with the light that turns off and the creatures fall asleep is a fun level.

Gameplay wise I think DKC is maybe a little more fun than vectorman, but they are two different games, I like vectorman a lot as a run n gun and DK as a platformer. I agree that comix zone has better graphics than DKC.

I have to side with DKC here.
C'mon, it had amazing graphics for the time. I remember to this date when I first saw that snow stage. It was painstaking, but I admit I was dazzled.

And I don't even like Vectorman's gameplay that much. Mainly due to that horrible 2nd stage, which I still haven't learned how to play without losing lives.

Once I learned that I like playing it with the arcade stick better and with the fire button on turbo I really enjoyed the vectorman gameplay. DKC is great but I don't think it should be compared to vectorman as they are very different games. I would compare DKC to maybe sonic 3+knuckles or sonic cd or another platformer.

To me Vectorman looks like most Genesis games, and the graphics really aren't that impressive to me, so I'd say Donkey Kong Country, but one game that I think actually looks better than both of them is Toy Story on the Genesis and SNES, some really impressive stuff was done there, especially on the first person shooter stage inside the UFO catcher machine.

There is some absolute craziness being expressed in this thread. Come on guys, both DKC and Vectorman have good visuals. Vectorman is a little bit better, but it also came out a year later.
