    Sonic RIP SEGA HQ

    https://twitter.com/nakayuji/status/...s-544186.phtml

For those who may not know. SEGA's old HQ is being torn down and they already moved into their new one. Still this was the building that employed the best talent SEGA had and some of the best ever in gaming. Where some of our favorite games we still talk about were created. Sure the SEGA we know and love has been gone a long time but this is pretty much the last holdover from that era. Alas there is nothing left. Maybe one day Segata Sanshiro will defend the new HQ when Dreamcast 2 happens right?!...no?...ok then....

    Life?!...What console is that on?

Amazing that the company itself wouldn't still want the same historic building, and keep the nostalgia going, even just for its own employees.

You have to remember that the Sega of today is very different in mindset to the Sega of yesteryear. Apart from paying lip service to old fart fans like us by occasionally resurrecting old IPs to shut us up and keep us happy, modern day Sega is almost entirely comprised of new staff, probably mostly fairly young, who most likely don't feel the same nostalgic affection for Sega's past as those of us who grew up with Sega in it's heyday.

Shame, could have converted it into the Museum of ill-conceived video game hardware decisions.

To be fair to them, they're getting a 5.2 billion yen of profit (around 47 million USD) just from doing this, not to mention avoiding more expenses long-term.

Sega Sammy HQ (the old Sammy HQ) was already in a different building, and they were paying expenses for both buildings. They were also consolidating parts of the company that were spread among a few other buildings. It sucks to toss away the old building, but economically it doesn't make any sense to keep it, it's just throwing away money.

Anything worth rescuing was probably already sent to a recycling center by now…

I don't think we have to remember, its been clear with Sammy output. The old SEGA is pretty much dead.
Such a shame too the front of the old SEGA's building looks so good, but if the new building means better tech and more money for the staff, then so be it.

I don't have the pics but I know I posted them somewhere of the new one and it's very nice with rooms dedicated to honoring the old games and displays of all their systems and models of some of their famous games from arcade to console even up to Yakuza series.

EDIT I found it https://www.dualshockers.com/segasam...-headquarters/ Yeah one pic show an entire floor with each room named after a SEGA system and classic game series.

Wow! Their new HQ is awesome! Love the museum dedicated to Sega's past. Also that canteen that can apparently accomodate 2000 members of staff at the same time, and serves alcohol after 6pm...just wow. Here's hoping that Sega can go from strength to strength with such a great working environment for their staff.

They'd have been better building it as an annex or penthouse arrangement.
