Default Sonic 3 Fan Made Remaster

Sonic 3 AIR (Angel Island Revisited) is a fan made remaster of Sonic 3 & Knuckles which enables the following:

    • 100% accurate Sonic 3 & Knuckles physics
    • Sonic, Tails, Knuckles fully playable, including Sonic & Tails co-op
    • Widescreen display
    • Additional effects like 360° rotation
    • Optional high quality pixel filter xBRZ
    • Scanline filter
    • Controller support
    • Time Attack mode
    • Many fixes and small gameplay tweaks
    • Added movement options like Tails Assist and Flight Cancel

All you need is a ROM of the game and you're golden. Sadly, it's Windows only. Download: https://sonicfangameshq.com/forums/t...c-3-a-i-r.221/

Hmm... Not a fan of it requiring the Steam version, but I understand why, after the explanation a few posts down.

That said, this could be a pretty awesome precedent for the concept of source porting roms.

You can use any ROM of S3&k, the author of the port is just saying you need the Steam version, (I think, don't quote me on this) as a means to either protect themselves from a C&D.

Whatever the case, the takeaway here is that this concept could potentially rival rom hacking. It obviously still takes a ton of programming knowledge, but if one were inclined, this could be an alternative to hacking in making an extended roster in a fighting/wrestling/beat 'em up game, or potentially adding HD graphics, or whatever else. Of course, that's dependent on people getting on board with the concept in the first place. The downside is that it'd be PC exclusive.

Well the Classic Sonic games have people who have spent years reverse engineering the games' code to the point now it's prob fully documented.

What is the point of this when Sonic 3 Complete exists? Run it in Retroarch or MEDNAFEN with any filter you want and it plays great with even more features and music. I don't see the reason for another PC port of Sonic 3 to exist unless it had some new content to be honest.

Eh, it's a different approach. Native port>emulator, imo.
