    Default Dreamcast d9 wire

I'm not sure if I should post this in the tech section but its not really a problem. I have a cable that plugs into the a/v port of the Dreamcast on one end and on the other it has a d9 connector on the other. Anyone know what it is for? Programming maybe?

D9 connector? Do show a picture.

Do you happen to mean a DB9 connector? Or better yet, are you sure it's 9 pins and not 15? Because if it's an HD15 connector, it's VGA.

D'oh! I did mean db9. I actually bought it because I thought it was for vga but I didn't look close enough to realize it was only for 9 pins.[IMG][/IMG]

And the DC hasn't got any mods ? If it does, it'll be COM cable (if other end plugs into your PC's COM port), and it should be useful for DC homebrew makers...

Com cables go on the serial port, NOT the AC port, TmEE.

It might possibly be RGB, 15KHz version, because some Commodore monitors have that port on the back.

Well, D9 doesn't fit into AC port...

I said it can be a COM port, since D9 usually is a COM port cable (and one is used for DC, a chip to get suitable signal levels...) but it can be RGB cable too of course if something uses that port... I use my custom ports for all my audio/video needs... usually some DIN.

Ahh damn... I thought there's 2 separate cables on the pic... well, thats RGB for sure, but you can make it VGA one if you add one logic chip into your DC, and replace the connector.

I don't know what your going on, about AC port, it's an AV cable, he stated that in the original post, and also stated he meant DB-9.

But, what I'm saying, is that theres no way in hell an AV port is going to output a COM port. That would be the DC's serial port, it has it's own serial port you know (Power, AV, Serial).

You started to mumble about AC... I never said AC... looking above posts... I mentioned DC, and PC, but no AC... there's C in all, and you've said you don't like abbreviations...

That was a typo, I meant AV port. Notice V and C are next to each other.

    Doubt it.

I'm sure it's a Commodore RGB connector, it's a hobbiest thing, hardly anyone has the 9-pin VGA.

(Check the pinout first if you can)

Very few DC games even run at 15KHz aka 240p.
