I got the backup ram cart today. Sadly the battery seems to be dead as everytime I power it off it asks me to reformat the next time its turned on. I have copied saves to it many times and it doesn't matter how long I keep the Sega CD on, once its off the saves go away and it asks for a reformat. I just messaged the seller explaining it and asking if I can return and refund as its not working as intended. Bummer.

EDIT...I do not have the tools to open it nor do I have any soldering skills. I would rather return and refund than try to change a battery that I probably would mess up.

Yeah the RAM cart battery is not rechargeable, unlike the internal Sega CD one. Everdrives at least come with brand new batteries

For me, luckily I found I don't need a RAM cart to play the Lunars and Shining Force CD fully, so didn't need to upgrade my X3 to X5.
If you haven't looked into Dark Wizard (and you liked Shining Force) you might want to give it a chance - is a much different game but in a lot of ways it is Shining Force on steroids. Vay is not quite as good as the Lunars but shouldn't be overlooked.

An excellent little company called Stone Age Gamer produce back-up RAM carts for the Mega CD/Sega CD, and they work perfectly. You can't really complete the likes of Shining Force CD without one.

Congrats on getting back into Mega CD gaming! I love the system and have more than 35 games in my collection. Yes, it is a very expensive system to collect for these days, but, as TA mentioned, a lot of excellent titles are still fairly inexpensive. I just need to add Snatcher to my collection and I'll be one happy bunny. First I need to justify spending £250 on it lol!

Stoneage Gamer doesn't produce much of any tech products. They just slap their logo on other companies products.

dbelectronics made the Ultra CD Backup Ram Cart.

OK, but Stone Age Gamer is who I bought my Mega CD RAM cart from. That is why I referred to them.
