    Lightbulb Terraonion MODE - Dreamcast & Saturn ODE - Anyone test with 16-bit SegaCD?

    Terraonion MODE - Dreamcast & Saturn ODE

    https://shop.terraonion.com/en/home/...aturn_ODE.html

    Compatible with Saturn and Dreamcast, same firmware for both systems. Compatible with both 20 pin and 21 pin Saturn consoles. Compatible with both 5v (VA0) and 3,3v (VA1) Dreamcast (proper voltage level conversion)

    Pre-order (Currently estimated to ship in late-June/early-July)

    Introducing MODE (Multi Optical Disc Emulator) for SEGA Saturn & Dreamcast!
    •Auto region patching (loads games from different regions without patching games)

    • Auto detects the console it's plugged into. No jumpers to configure.

    • SATA 2.5 HDD compatible with exfat (works with both hard drives and SSD drives)

    • MicroSD

    • USB for USB thumbdrives and powered USB hard drives
    While this is for Saturn and Dreamcast, I'm wondering if anyone tested with the 16bit Sega CD...?

    Can't remember where I saw this but the Saturn and 16-bit CD hardware have some compatibility with the CD interface. I think a plug adapter was used. I know some forum users elsewhere demo'd a PC Sony IDE Pata cd drive with the Dreamcast; ribbon cable on Sony had less pins but it worked after offsetting plug.

    Thanks for any results or tests.

    edit:
    Well the Dreamcast Gd drive to PC cd drive transplant doesn't really prove anything for this, but here's some guides and sources (don't think it's the same first I found). Still might be useful for IBM PC msdos machine. https://dreamcast-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1982 https://dreamcast-talk.com/forum/vie...php?f=2&t=1902 https://dreamcast-talk.com/forum/vie...p?f=42&t=12496

    edit:
    Okay supposedly the SegaCD "X'eye" and some model 2s use JVC optima6, and some model 1 Saturns with oval shaped power/reset buttons.

    Here are some notes on how I hacked the 21 pin modchip to a 20 pin Saturn. [the one available from Jandaman]

    21 pin Saturn:

    //mod chip legend//

    *=used but not altered

    +=pad selector for 4MHz clock

    X=used and replaced data stream

    Y=signal conditioned ;<strobe>-||-/\/\/\-GND

    *1 -> IC 20 315-5746 pin 7 [8MHz clock] pad B

    *2 -> Ground

    X3 -> SH-1 Pin 107 DATA

    X4 -> SH-1 Pin 108 Stop packet strobe[response byte?]

    5 -> SH-1 Pin 101 OE

    6 -> SH-1 Pin 100 Start packet strobe[command byte?]

    *7 -> SH-1 Pin 111 WR strobe

    8 -> Ground

    +9 -> unused R48 [alternate 4MHz location diff rev.?] pad 0019

    10 -> YGR-019B pin 123

    11 -> SH-1 Pin 79

    12 -> Ground

    Y13 -> YGR-019B pin 126 and 129 OE fetch data

    +14 -> YGR-019B pin 125 and 131 [4MHz clock] pad 0014

    X15 -> YGR-019B pin 130 CD buffer DATA

    16 -> Ground

    17 -> IC 39 VHC08 pin 2

    18 -> YGR-019B pin 122

    19 -> YGR-019B pin 118 via 300 Ohm R175

    20 -> YGR-019B pin 128

    21 -> YGR-019B pin 121

    pin 15 data is switched on 157 multiplexer between original and GAL

    pin 3 data is routed through EM78 pins 12,9

    pin 4 data is routed through EM78 pins 7,8

    20 pin Saturn:

    1 -> SH-1 Pin 79 logic HIGH

    2 -> Ground

    3 -> SH-1 Pin 107 Data

    4 -> SH-1 Pin 108 Stop packet strobe[response byte?]

    Considering they sell a product that runs CD games already, I am gonna say no.

    I don't want to criticize too much, but is it really needed? Especially at the usual premium price...

    We already have tons of ODE solutions already available, and still no one attempted to make brand new real optical drives.

    This one is reported to be the first that is fully functional and user friendly.

    As far as I know, "tons" for Saturn means two works-in-progress being sold as-is. Neither work on Dreamcast.

    As time goes on, I become less and less a fan of optical media. This is a great solution. I have the MegaSD and love it, so I definitely want to look into this. My only fear is the installation.

    I'm in the same boat as you are. I have one of these on order and can't wait for it to arrive. If it works as promised I'll pick up a second one for my Dreamcast. I already have their MegaSD and their NeoSD Pro and both work problem free for me, but neither require pulling apart the console and installing hardware. I'm hoping if this goes without hitches that they move on to the Gamecube because I already have a console that has a dead drive that is waiting for something like this (Yes I'm aware of the GC Loader, but they're hard to find).

    I was on the fence for a bit, but I did pre-order to put one into my sports edition DC. I already have the Rhea in my Saturn so I don't really see a need to get one of these for my other Saturn also. This will be the first Terraonion product I've actually purchased so will be curious to get it in place and check it all out.
