First of all, he's not limiting his potential market, because the only people he's catering to are people who would have original hardware to play it on in the first place.
Second of all, who here on this forum DOESN'T own the original hardware, or at least a variant of the original hardware (CDX, X'Eye, etc.)? If you don't, dafuq you doing on here complaining about it? Go on Facebook Marketplace and you can see countless listings for original hardware for sale for far less than these shitbox clone consoles.
Paprium doesn't even work with my wireless Retro-Bit joypad, I think it registered like one button press at the beginning and from then on just pretended it wasn't there.
Perhaps you should read this thread: https://twitter.com/Sega16/status/1342223904740409345
I guess some people here haven't heard of the Game Mode on new TV's. That means no input lag. Hook an Mega Sg to a 4K TV and enjoy your Mega Drive time like never before. You can even tailor it to sound exactly like you want. I don't care about purism.
Then there's the other thing on the table: I recall reading Matt Phillips twitter back in the day, when he was writing about his experiences with Tanglewood, testing and tuning it to death so it worked even on the crappiest Mega Drive clone. That's compromise and profesionalism. Fonzie can't event make Paprium work on official hardware. He's an elitist lazy moron, and you are too if you support him.
As shown by the twitter thread posted, tech breaks. And pieces for old consoles aren't even produced anymore. The game should work on newer MDs (the clones) too.
If it has problems even on original hardware models, the blame is probably with Datenmeister, a chip that judging from sound and graphics adds nothing much to the game.
I am loving this game and I think it is met and or exceeded my every expectation. I even got Tug Enthroned which did nothing as far as I can count. I got teh two new characters and can make it to the Sky Spa and beat that final boss which does nothign and won't even save. It just screams .....OH NO!!!!!!!!!>> and then the game resets so I am guessing I did something wrong?
What's up with that SAX guy/ Let him follow? I am still trying to find all the paths but I love this game, just love it.
With all the talk of this game not running on so many models of the original hardware, I'm starting to worry that it's, low-key, potentially damaging any and all models merely as a result of its use. Can anyone confirm that we aren't inadvertently damaging our model 1's do to any overlooked components not being compatible with the hardware? I don't want to damage my consoles playing this game.
I'm aging the hell out of it, testing stuff, leaving it running while I'm posting stuff on here, etc. And it's gotten warm before. That was weird as hell.
Note: playing on an HDG Model 1 w/ TMSS. I'm on a VA6, I reckon. I can't remember which one I have hooked up, but it works. I'm only buying/collecting model 1's, and I have about 4 of them. I should see if it runs on all of them.

Anybody watching the paprium investors edition selling on eBay. 1 hour left and $488 usd bid, 401 euros. I can't believe it, but I guess everything PAL mega drive is more expensive than the US counterparts (or at least was 5 years ago when I was still purchasing games).
