Not really a Paprium issue, but just so you know, the Pier Solar reprint cart doesn't work on the Mega SG. Maybe it's related to Paprium don't working. It shows the first text screen and then the screen goes full red, and the console it's blocked. I've sent a message to Analogue about this, maybe they could fix both games, maybe not.

By the way, I tried using Game Sack's Joe method going back to firmware 4.7, but it didn't work. Maybe there are more settings involved than those in his explanation, maybe it's Europe's voltage... I don't know

SoR2's design is nothing like that and SoR1/GA tend to have fewer enemies that encourage using the whole moveset.
You can cheese most beat'em up games. Sure it is boring and takes a lot more time but you can do it in SOR 1 and 2. I would say three but i never liked it enough to try and play past a few levels. The jump kick can be abused in a bunch of games.

I think the issue is that jump kicking and dash attacking repeatedly is as effective if not more effective than other strategies. The game also appears to lack basic strings such as basic combo > grapple combos or dash attacks that would help deal with spongier enemies. Given how weak the standard combo is, you're most likely to send the enemy flying away and reset. So if you're already going to reset them why not just kick them? The sprites are so large and the play field so tight that most attacks place enemies off-screen where leap kicks and dash attacks are likely to hit something. Sprinting and jumping you can easily cover both ends of the screen at once so spamming attacks back and forth lets you do more damage over time AND avoid damage at your back all the while. Paprium has some deeply rooted problems that are much more grave than they are in other beat-em-ups. One of the more interesting additions in Paprium is the stomp. A move that could pick fallen enemies up and lead back into your basic combo would be very useful as a tool to chase spongier enemies down and keep the damage on...except it combos into itself, has huge lag, miniscule damage and leaves you wide open. I get that it's supposed to be used to finish weakened enemies off but all the drawbacks means the best tool to finish enemies is again, a leap kick.

What do you mean going "back" to 4.7? That's the very latest out there. Are you on some magical firmware? Also the Pier Solar reprint cart worked great for me on Mega Sg.

I'll say this one more time:
-Make sure the startup is direct to cartridge. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS IT WILL NOT WORK.
-Change boot sequence delay to 0. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS IT WILL NOT WORK.
-Make sure auto detect is NOT enabled on the region menu. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS IT WILL NOT WORK. (I tested both NTSC and PAL and both worked great)
-Make sure cartridge and CD audio is enabled. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS THE GAME WILL HAVE MINIMAL SOUND.
-Save your settings. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS IT WILL NOT WORK.
-Turn it off, insert cartridge, turn on power.
-After you start the game up, open the Analogue Sg menu and enable controller passthrough. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS YOU WILL BE LIMITED TO 3 BUTTONS.

If after all this the game doesn't run, your cartridge is screwed or your Mega Sg is broken forever and you should throw it away right now after smashing it with a hammer. Then set all of Europe on fire for having 50Hz.

If I could go back in time I'd add standardizing refresh rates to the list of things I'd do along the way. Catch me arguing with some engineer that a blue cartoon hedgehog isn't running fast enough in the future. On that topic. PAL region folks, if I do ever receive my copy should I play in 50hz or modded 60hz? Also keep in mind borders aren't an issue with framemeister scaling options

I've been playing in modded 60 Hz most of the time as I prefer that with all games, but honestly the 50 Hz mode in this game is really good too. Like Streets of Rage 2 the game makes use of the extra PAL lines to add more background, so while the sprites are still slightly squashed at least you do get a near-full screen experience. And the game plays fast enough that the drop in speed doesn't hurt much; it still plays very well in 50 Hz. In fact it might even be a little easier to control large crowds in 50 Hz as you get more time to react to what's happening.

There's also the matter that we discovered that the music doesn't play back entirely correctly in modded 60 Hz. It's not something you notice while playing IMHO and it probably isn't a problem either if your mod includes a proper NTSC oscillator, but it's something to be aware of.

I plan on doing a video showing the 50 Hz mode sometime soon-ish.

As I said before I was using the latest jailbreak firmware. And yes, I double checked every single step, and Paprium and Pier Solar reprint doesn't work. My Mega Sg works great with everything except these two games, it's not broken and I'll not smash it with a hammer 😛. Also the carts are fine, they work great on a Mega Drive 2. So we have a mystery here...

Anyway, Fei has created this guide for unlocking everything in Paprium, take a look.

    Well, I have received a reply to the ticket I sent regarding my order status showing as 'Shipping...' since 15th December. Apparently a generic one that I guess has been sent to others waiting on news of their orders;

'Due to constant spam by a few, we cannot process legitimate support requests at this time.

Please noted that most of our parcels were shipped before Christmas 2020, however, if your parcel is still marked as "Packing..." or "Shipping...", it means it's not yet shipped and you will need extra patience.

For people with refund request, you are on a refund list and will be processed as soon as we gain access to our new Paypal account.

We will resume service in 15 days. For any urgent matters, please call our support hotline +33(0)7 81 08 84 61.

We are sorry it takes time, rest assured everyone will get served in the end.

Thanks for your support and patience.

    Best regards,

    WATERMELON TEAM'

So I am a day short of four weeks since getting the 'Shipping...' email, and now looks like another 15 days wait until maybe something else happens! I would love to know how they allocated shipments, as I have already said, being in the UK I don't understand why my order is coming from the USA!

    The wait continues...

You haven't even played SoR2 enough and you pretend you know anything about beat 'em ups lmao, jump kick spam will not get you anywhere on mania in that game. The jump kick in SoR1 is good but the reach and startup time are nowhere near as overpowered as in Paprium and it can't be used mindlessly on most bosses, the normal punches are just as good if not better, with a long hitstun that allows infinites for large crowds, also the grabs do actual damage. The moves in SoR games are a lot better balanced.

No, you can't. If a beat 'em up was designed like that, it was a bad beat 'em up, and most of the companies making brawlers at the time had arcade roots, and that kind of design oversight would not make it in the arcade scene. You're not going to be beating many, if any, arcade beat 'em ups like that, outside Golden Axe, and that will be a garbage score. (Golden Axe rewards how you kill enemies, move variation, and all sorts of different scoring techniques), so if you _did_ beat the game with just jump attacks, you were looking at a 15 minute run through, and a garbage score and power rating, which means the cabinet wins, as it gets your drop, (That credit, + whatever you spent learning all the patterns just to win with 1 move, which, good luck cheesing your way through Golden Axe on 1 credit on your 50th, let alone first try.) and you get a low score, you're off the cab, and yeah... Good arcade Design, there's no way in hell Makoto Uchida would have let that kind of weak design make it to the arcade. You may be thinking of some console games that allowed it, but nothing really worth its salt was designed that way. SOR1/and especially SOR2/SOR3 would punish you for jumping in wrong. Donovan loves players that jump-in. He's got them uppercuts for the non-believers.

Fonzie finally offered a blanket reply to my dusty support ticket this morning. As you'd expect, it's full of the requisite amount of scapegoating and passive-aggressive condescension and little else.

    Attachment 15823

Ever the savvy businessman, he doesn't waste a second before blaming his own customers for his lacking customer service. As if those who've spent a considerable amount of money on games and arcade sticks don't deserve insight into their missing merchandise. Classy as ever.

While the piss and vinegar runneth over in his reply, sadly, we still don't have any insight into when our copies of the game are going out. IIRC, people who previously received support messages from him were told the game would be going out the first week of January. We're now approaching the middle of the month, and all he says is, "[we] need extra patience." No explanation for the new delay, no rough window of when our games will ship. Absolutely nothing of value whatsoever. He then goes on to repeat the tired line about how shipping statuses work while tacitly ignoring the reality that, if social media and this forum are to be believed, nobody in the Americas who received their copy of the game has ever gotten a tracking number or had their shipping status accurately update on MGF. Is this issue resolved? Who knows! Certainly not us, the people who will have little recourse if our parcels are indeed lost due to Fonzie's own negligence or the covid crush.

Fuck this mustachoed muppet. It's almost impressive the measures he has taken to run this project into the ground from start to finish. Even with the game finally out (for the chosen few, anyway), he is still managing to bumble around blindly leaving ruin and frustration in his wake like a retrogaming Mr. Magoo. In any case, from the look of things, there will very likely be a great many of us who won't be seeing our games until at least a month and a half from the game's December 16 launch. I'd call that completely unacceptable, but that seems like an understatement. Fonzian? Watermelonesque? I don't fucking know. I just know I'm done with this company for good.

Thanks for sharing that. Indeed it seems strange that investor editions did not get shipped first, those are the people who have waited the longest. Also some orders placed earlier were not shipped while orders shipped the next day were already delivered. Seems completely random. But that is WM's business model, throw away any normal human logic and don't communicate anything. And now the excuses about PayPal again... It seems like he can't afford to ship any more packages until he gets access to the new PayPal account. (If that ever happens...)

I have worked in e-commerce since the 1990s and especially in the old days the #1 customer inquiry was always about order status, it was a huge drain on customer service time and annoyed the customer that they needed to ask. Fonzie (as always) could quiet the angry mob by simply being proactive, honest, and communicative. A blog, a tweet, an email, a status page on the site, whatever. "We shipped 50% of the orders on Dec 15 and won't be shipping any more until we get access to our PayPal money which we expect to happen in February" would surely anger some people, but would also stop the flood of conspiracy theories and support emails from people wondering why it has been a month and their package still hasn't shipped.

Anyway, I am a patient person. I'm jealous of seeing people posting about the game since December, trying very hard to avoid spoilers, so now if I may not get until February or March or later that's disappointing. But I've been waiting since 2012 already and assumed that money was lost years ago, so... time goes quickly, assuming it's going to be shipped someday, it'll be here soon enough.

I'd cut some slack to Fonzie. If he really is doing all the shipping alone, including packing, that's a really time consuming job for just one guy. I don't know if it's really true, but it certainly is possible, so try to stay positive, even with that crappy generic answer. We're less than one month away from launch day, and he's already shipped hundreds or thousands of packages, so it may be just a matter of time.

I don't know why Joe gets so angry. His method really doesn't work for me, tried on official and unofficial firmware with the same results (stuck at the minigame with wrong colors). I was just trying to find what causes that. Maybe there's more settings involved than those mentioned that are different between his Mega Sg and mine, I don't know. Maybe voltage is an issue. Anyway, I don't take it personally.

Well the Las Vegas USA shipping is being handled by a third party that only ships packages for small company's. He only has to provide them with an name and address. So possibly they are out of products to send on his behalf and restocking is taking 15 more days? I cannot think of any valid reason for not sending what we payed for.
