Well if you think it looks better than that's what counts. I have the opposite reaction to N64 games under emulation, I feel like the higher resolution of emulators just exposes all of the flaws. N64 games are generally a mishmash of shaded polys, textured polys and bitmaps. On an older TV it all kind of melds together but on a high res display all of a sudden it's obvious that spheres are really flat circles and the draw distance is very short for many objects. But plenty of people think I'm the crazy one and that anything looks better than the blurry output of composite cables to a CRT

By the way for anyone who wants a Zelda that doesn't require a guide, try A Link Between Worlds on the 3DS. So long as you have all the items you can go basically anywhere, the only place you could conceivably get stuck is the Dark Palace where it's sometimes hard to tell where you're going. ALBW is a masterclass in good game design and should really get the credit for paving the way for the open world exploration of BOTW.

I rarely got stuck in this game and never used a guide tbh.

The only area which took me a good while was the water temple as I would get lost and confused there.

I’ve never finished a Legend of Zelda game, because of all of the backtracking. I’m currently stuck with Link’s Awakening on the Switch, because there is no real clue as to where I need to go next and after about 2 hours of roaming all over the map, I’d set it aside. A Link to the Past would probably be my favorite, if I didn’t get frustrated with figuring out the travel from the light to dark world. Even the sorry ass (unofficial) guide did me no good.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

OOT came at the perfect time and while I find it a very good game, I doubt it would have been as well received and as well renowned as it has become. The timing was impeccable.

One can't mention OOT w/o speaking of Majora's Mask. The time of release between both games and the deviation from one to the other reminds me exactly of the NES days with LOZ and AOL.

Well I don’t want to seem overly negative about Ocarina because I never got further than the third dungeon - Zora’s realm.

So I might be lacking the proper perspective on it.

I was just reading some YouTube comments and Ocarina fans are swearing that there are hints for everything that’s necessary. So then I would be wrong for complaining about randomness in the gameplay objectives.

I think Ocarina is worth checking out for its music, graphics, etc. It was apparently the best game on its console, and best graphics. And I think it was basically the best 3D game world at that point in time.

Still I love the nature scenery more than anything. For example, Link can visit the graveyard and cause a thunderstorm by going there, and he can then remain there indefinitely, watching/ hearing the rain and thunder/ lightning, with that windmill turning.

I also don’t expect that subsequent games would offer gratuitous nature scenery to hang around, unless I’m wrong about that, but then later Zelda titles took different art styles that also put me off. So Ocarina may be the only 3D Zelda game I ever get into.

The last couple weeks it was nice having an ongoing window of Ocarina scenery always on my Desktop.

Link’s village can be a nice place at night, only nature sounds and those lights floating around, and you can put Link’s perspective as looking through the waterfall.

So I love the scenery although probably not what most people are focused on… but it might be enough for me to keep revisiting in the future.

Ecco, I paid nearly £90 on getting the USA import after all the hype. I found the puzzles didn't make sense and I just gave up on the game at the Tree puzzle. TBH I found it a lot like Shenmue, amazing to walk around and take in the 3D graphics, but so dull and boring to play.

AOL = Adventures of Link. I hope it gets a remake in the future, picture the 2D sections like Metroid Dread and make it seamless to go between 2D and 3D, like in Mario Odyssey. I'd buy it anyway.

For some reason I can't quote posts today... but anyway Link to the Past and Link's Awakening are linear games in spite of the open nature of the overworld. If you get stuck somewhere it's hard to proceed without a guide. One of the things I like about Breath of the Wild is that you are never really stuck, you can always come back to a puzzle later on or skip it entirely. All you need to do is get good at combat and you can go anywhere.

And yeah, Ocarina of Time has some of the best environments, if you play through it further you'll even see how some of them are connected with hidden passageways. The music really adds to the atmosphere too, that's something that was sorely lacking in BotW. For me the best experience was playing OoT on the 3DS with the 3D slider all the way up and closed-back headphones, it just creates such an immersive feeling.

Ocarina is on my list of have to play at least once every
    few years.
I have the real deal but honestly don't know when
the last time was I committed to hooking all that
    up for a go.
So I play it with surreal64 on an original Xbox.
Now it might be something that's just easier to
notice through emulation but I do need someone
to give me some feedback on something.
Have you ever just stopped like say in the DEKU TREE
and just looked at the walls?
I never knew how much I missed before.
And I would use the look around button to look
around a lot .(Mario and pals inside Hyrule castle)
The details on the walls are friggin insane.
If I had seen them before I'd have shit a brick.
If you love this game and don't know what I'm
describing, check out the images that appear
on the walls of the DEKU TREE....
I'm glad I play it every so often in the winter.
    FRIGGIN LOVE THIS GAME....

The second shipment of Panzer Dragon Saga came out right after OOT.
I know I bought OOT at lunch and was playing it daily. Bought PDS, and was playing the two interchangably for a bit
Decided I better finish OOT first then give PDS my undivided attention. However OOT couldn't hold my interest at that point. Was at Ganondorfs castle and just couldn't care anymore.
Started back into PDS and never touched OOT again for years.
Years later when I did decide to resume my save and finish OOT I was quickly bored and put it away then sold it. The word plodding comes to mind.

Oh hey welcome back sir. I was wondering if you decided to stay away after I nuked your alt account. So far you've been pretty relaxed so like I told you before as long as you're chilling out, I won't bother you. Keep in mind tho this doesn't give you or anyone else free reign to be an ass but as long as you decide to stay as productive as you are now, then you're more then welcome to be here.

    Exclamation

Oh look, not even a few minutes and you're already going for the touchdown.

Edit: Keep in mind sir, you were already breaking forum rules by having multiple accounts & yet while some people have PM"d me about you doing it, I decided to take the high road & give you a chance.

P.S. Nobody here cares about fucking profanity on an internet forum so while I assume this is some light-hearted attempt at trolling, It's not going to end well for you if you decide to try and keep ice skating up a hill.
Just keep your nose clean & you and me will get along fine.
