I have heard that.
I have heard that.
Are they really unnecessary or is there just a very small risk not to use them?

There you go. As I recall, the little metal plates are not for RF shielding, they are for properly grounding the 32X electrically to the Genesis/Mega Drive. If I also recall correctly, the Genesis/MD IIs have internal grounding (via the cart slot connector) and thus the plates aren't needed (or don't even exist?) for IIs. Sega included them for some reason (at least for Gen/MD Is) so it only makes sense to use them. I've had my 32X since it was bought new back in the day and I've always used the grounding straps so you can't argue with success.Originally Posted by mick_aka

Novaka said he'd look into the 32X and CD on the appropriate subforums, guys. There's no reason to start talking about this stuff (again) here. He wants to know about MS and SAT.
A master system is well worth owning, personally I think anyone who enjoys megadrive ought to enjoy its predocessor too. I believe anyone who totally dismissis the SMS either doesn't know the library of games well, or has poor taste in games.
Theres tons of classic games like Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Alex Kidd In shinobi World, The Ninja, Operation Wolf, Shinobi, Asterix, Lucky Dime Caper, Castle of Illusion, Sonic, Bubble Bobble, R-type, Wonderboy series, and so on.
A saturn is worth getting for the Virtua Cop games alone. Is there any need for debate on getting these consoles though? both are easily avaliable for peanuts, as are a lot of the best games, you should own them already!
I have an original launch Genesis and a later model 1 with TMSS. Both work great without the plates. I choose not to use them because they are annoying, even though I have them both. I remove the 32X a lot to use the Power Base Converter. I have used them before and there was zero difference.
I tihnk it is just Government paranoia.Originally Posted by Zebbe
Master System is nice for an 8-bit system, but its library is somewhat limited. A good chunk of its games are 16-bit ports, and while they may be impressive, they're not really worth bothering with if you have a Genesis. After collecting about 50 games, you'll run into a brick wall and be out of games to go after. That said, 50 games really ain't too shabby. On the uptick, very few SMS games go for more than $10-15 (if that), and despite their age, you can usually find them complete easily.
Saturn is an amazing console IMO. A lot of people complain about how games like Panzer Dragoon Saga and Radiant Silvergun are astronomically expensive. The best way to deal with those games is to just put them out of mind. Go for the cheap games first. You'll find that there's more than enough games of a reasonable price to keep you collecting for a long time before you have to think about Radiant Silvergun at all. You'll definitely want an import adapter, but only because there's lots of cheap Japanese games worth getting. There are a number of games for the system that are downright obscure, even among Sega fans, that are actually pretty damn good, in my experience.

I like my Master System solely for the Sonic series, Psycho Fox, the Alex Kidd series, and Double Dragon. It's a fantastic machine, but sadly the Internet magnifies the NES' influence as 'the' 8-bit system.
I've never played much of Phantasy Star, funnily enough. Better stick that on the resolutions list.

Both systems are worth it to own. They are very cheap nowadays and have a variety of classics released for them. I consider the Sega Saturn one of my favourite consoles ever. It only has a problem one would typically associate with Nintendo systems: Almost no third party classics.
Saturn had much, much more third-party support than N64. Although Sega really did put out the best games, there were definitely a good number of third-party classics on Saturn.

Personally my Saturn is my second favorite console behind the Genesis. Its too bad I don't have nearly enough games for it though because as said numerous times earlier, most of the best games never made it out of Japan.
As for the Master System, Ive been trying to get my hands on one of theses for ages now.
I'm reading alot of posts about the Master System not having many games etc, but it had quite alot more releases in europe. You can play most of the Euro games on a US SMS aswellThe SMS outsold the NES in europe by quite a margin.
It's my fave format of all, fantastic to collect for aswell - i would recommed it to anyone, especially if you a fan of the mega Drive anyway![]()
