Default Rebirth of Old School Death Metal

With all the recent reunions of old school death metal bands lately, (Carcass, Atheist, Cynic, Pestilence, Brutality) I figured it'd be the optimum time to devote a whole thread to it! Here you can talk about all the death metal you like, and fond memories you have about death metal (Genesis + 90's Death). Or you can release all the rage you have built up against it. \m/

I'm actually not excited about the new Cynic album because I know it won't be able to touch Focus.

I tried to shock my parents with Metallica. That didn't work so then I got into Sepultura. That didn't work either so I tried Bolt Thrower. At some point when I was 13 or so I realized it was a bit ridiculous and got into another ridiculous style.. punk. I lost track of everything after that. Now I hear talks of Black Metal and such. It was a fun time though. Back then few people had ever heard anything like that. I always wondered what happened to all those bands. I used to listen to Morbid Angel, Napalm Death, Death, and a crap load of bands like that.

I don't care for death metal. I've never much liked listening to snarling nordic men hit stuff with guitars. Or snarling men of any nationality hit stuff with guitars for that matter.

They hit stuff with guitars? i think the Nordic stuff is Black Metal but either way I have been out of the loop for to long to really say. I'm sure someone could clarify.

Death Metal is of American origin, evolved from the Bay Area Thrash Metal. In Stockholm and Gothenburg two sub-genres of Death Metal were being established by their respective scenes in the early 90s. Black Metal as we know it today came from Norway in the early 90s as well, with bands like Mayhem, Darkthrone and Burzum defining the style.

I like the Swedish melodic stuff from Gothenburg, like (early) In Flames, Dimension Zero and At The Gates.

Melodic death metal is pretty nice. Regular Death metal feels really good when you're drunk... but my neck hurt badly the next day. Scandinavian metal is the best along with stuff made in 80'

That's quite the gross misconception you have there. Nowadays, death metal bands are some of the few who even know how to play their instruments at all, let alone well (see Flo Mounier and Ralph Santolla). I don't think death metal deserves most of the shit it recieves, unlike Slipknot and Marilyn Manson who totally deserve it.

Yeah, I do realize that, actually. However, the only death metal I've heard of any sort is from my friends who listen to the corporate overproduced kind. Like Slipknot.

Also, I can't think of death metal without thinking of Noosehead. http://www.samandfuzzy.com
