Possibly the most diabolical post I've ever read anywhere, but so funny...

Also I doubt Yuzo has time to wipe his own ass not to mind popping on to read this tripe he was so brief....

Kudos to Ken for nailing him down at all, and it's certainly not his fault the man was so brief..... Also I find it funny the way he made the SOR soundtracks sound like they were following trends in the dance scene, and to then create SOR3 surely one would have known it wasn't right... If he's artisticly bored thats one thing, but turning the final game of that classic series into some "plaything" for his experimental lust seems a bit nonchalant, although I respect him for not trying a clone on the originals master piece...

Which I tell you here in Ireland is immortal, that boss song that boomed out in the first stage of streets of rage and piled the shivers to my spine (showcasing the megadrives exciting edge over the snes) damn near sold as many megadrives as sonic himself and I tell you thats a fact!
"Age badly is something women do, games are good or bad when they are released. "

"It's like watching Runic stones by vikings here in Täby: not beautiful compared to Mona Lisa, but damn fine stuff for their time, as Phantasy Star II is, and that is why I enjoy it."

Zebbe speaks on the quality of how 16-bit games hold up against modern counterparts 28/07/07 beautiful

I really wish I knew where Yuzo drew inspiration for some of his songs in SOR. I can pick up some possible hints/similarities in songs here and there, but an actual list would have been cool.

Agreed. Most game soundtracks are just orchestral - which I like - but I like the gaming (melodic) flair more.

And I'm 99.9999% positive that in an interview Yuzo listed the clubs and bands that inspired his godly SoR1 tunes.

Sega-16: What is Ancient's relationship with Sega now?

Yuzo Koshiro: The sound division may get involved in some game in the near future.
    SHENMOO 3?

Nice interview. Hope you get to ask him more stuff next time, especially about Streets Of Rage for the Dreamcast the next time (which SEGA threw back at him).

I won't be composing, I'd be looking to record sound effects and vocal work.

He doesn't. He mentions "club music" and "club scene" but not a specific group.

I know elsewhere he (I believe) listed some inspiration from the likes of Black Box or possibly Snap!, but I can't remember where I read that or if he even said it.

I'm taking a wild guess on this next bit.

I believe that the track in SOR2, the fight in the baseball stadium (It's like boo!) is either inspired by or has some elements that sound remarkably similar to the song "Move any Mountain" by The Shamen.

"Under Logic" is very similar yes, but still good enough to stand on its own IMO.

Haha, I remember that. A very un-Japanese sort of name.

That was probably the worst interview I've ever read in the history of my reading interviews in books, magazines, watching them on TV, and reading them on the internet, which must number in the 10,000+ range somewhere.

Feel free to contact Yuzo and do better yourself. Maybe he'll have more time for you.

In all those interviews you've read, how much do you know about the process of how they actuually came about? Reading interviews is not the same as actually interviewing someone. All you see is the final product, and that says nothing about the process itself. Just so you know, It took me almost two years just to get this interview, and most Japanese personalities won't even look at a website or magazine that doesn't have big circulation. The fact that Yuzo was even willing to talk to me says a lot.

Some interviews are really in depth, and others are quick affairs that aren't what you expected. I really wish this one would have been longer, and it's up there with my interviews with Boris Vallejo and Mike Montgomery in terms of brevity. They won't all be massive. I've learned that over the last three years from interviewing more than sixty different people for several outlets.

Ignore it, Melf. You are not to blame; your questions were pretty much what all the fans had in mind, it“s the answers that were a bit short; and that cannot be helped, it was Koshiro“s decision how much to say.
In the end it is an honor to have an interview with him at all.
Of course, the Tom-Kalinske-interview remains the unchallenged masterpiece!
