Seriously. Mortal Kombat 3 was just hokey, ridiculous, and worst of all MK: Annihilation was based on it. That film was the worst 90 minutes of my life, next to Digimon.

Mortal Kombat (1+onward) was dead before it was released. Sort of like an aborted fetus.

I think it died before it got started.
Yes. Now that there's no real boundaries to break in terms of how much blood spray you can get from a punch, there's little to make the series innovative.
Mortal Kombat was unique in that it was possibly the first brainless beat-em-up to hit the arcade scene and the public consciousness, and along with games like Night Trap revolutionised how games were perceived and restricted.
Basically, it's just a dinosaur whose time has passed.

I thought that mortal kombat 4 put a breath of new life in the series and after that thy were not as good. but ive always been a big fan of the series
The only MK games I liked where the ones that where nothing more than a quick and dirty complitation, such as Trilogy and Armagaddon.
The smell of scorched oil hangs in the air as a premonition of danger, while the engine gloriously shouts its war cry...
Throughout history, suspicion has always bred conflict. The real conflict, though, resides in people's hearts. This conflict has just begun.

Ive always been a street fighter guy, so i was never any good at any of these games. i just beat the first one about a year ago.

Agreed with the thread title. I still like Mortal Kombat 2 on the Mega Drive. (All other versions annoy me, for various tedious reasons that nobody cares about.)
It's sad that the series peaked at the sequel.
Street Fighter got a little crazy, as far as I'm concerned - must've been around the time Street Fighter 2 EX Plus Alpha Hyper Fighting Super Turbo Edition came out...
Mortal Kombat 2 is the only somewhat decent one thanks to having some character depth with a combo here and there. Otherwise, the big problem with the series as a whole is that all the characters are copycats beyond the few special moves. MK3 did nothing to give its franchise's shallow fighting engine more depth and only succeeded in adding that clunky, completely unnecessary "run" button. The original game would not have been the runaway success if it were not for the gore, and, once gore in games became commonplace, there was no reason for fans to return to the franchise.
MK2 is still the shit.
Toasty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do love playing Mortal Kombat Trilogy with kombos/aggression turned off, it basically makes it MK2 with a lot more characters. Excellent.
The newer 3d games were pretty fun too. Not classic pieces of art, but I had a good time with them.
I am still able to have fun playing mortal kombat 1-ultimate. Only for a couple minutes of mindless fun then its on to something else.
