    Default Power Base Converter

I have a Genesis 2 necessitating the removal of the back plastic piece in the back of the converter. Is this thing rare? Like...is it a terribly bad idea to break the back off? Would it be worthwhile just to purchase a Genesis I so I don't have to do any destruction? Thanks.

At that point you might as well just get a Master System.

But he'll miss out on the stereo sound.

Really, you should have a model 1 anyway. Or just get a MS if you don't really care about using mono and having another console set up.

Yeah, I want a Genesis I, but I really don't see the point unless I can get one for dirt cheap; my Genesis II has served me well for...14 years now.

I have a modded model 2 and a model 2 Sega CD, but I'm really, REALLY leaning towards getting model 1s of both. I miss how sexy the original Genny looks.

Anyone know who can mod a model 1 for regional play and s-video?

SMS games do not play in stereo on the Genesis. They are still mono. The only difference is that the SMS itself comes with only one audio jack, ut you can make this fit two with a simple and cheap Y cable if need be. Maybe stereo connections will play the sound through both speakers if you connect the wire to only the left input. I think you can also import a SMS converter specifically made for the model 2 Genesis/Mega Drive so you don't have to hack up the PBC, which I really think you should leave intact.

Modding a model 1 for region is insanely easy. As for S-video I believe the Old School Gamer can and does do it. I think I have a link to him on my article about video connections here on Sega-16. Just be sure to get one with "High Definition Graphics" written on the top. It may or may not have the TMSS start up screen. Not much of a difference otherwise that I can see/hear.

Melf: there's a dude on the neo-geo.com forums (I think his name is Rade) that routinely sells Model 1's with box and all the good mods for about $90 or so.

As far as Master System goes- my SMS is a Game Gear with SMS adapter. I need to pick up a PBC sometime so I can actually play it on a TV.
