    Sega Channel

    Being on my "quest" to make a complete master list for the mega drive and it's add ons, I would like to know if anyone has a full list of game demos etc that could be downloaded from the sega channel service?

    I didn't have the opportunity to have the Sega Channel in my apartment complex, when it existed. I do know, however, that the only version of Rockman(Mega World), in the US, was only available through the Sega Channel.

    Phhew good luck with that one man. I was one of the lucky ones who had Sega Channel, and it was probably one of the most glorious times of my life. Sure I didn't go outside for 4 months but whatever it was worth it.

    As for a list of games available and demo's, I don't know, and it was an obscure enough thing that I dunno if anyone knows that information.

    My parents knew better. I would have never made it through middle school.

    It pisses me off, because I missed out on such a great product.

    Even though I had Time Warner cable in my apartment complex, Time Warner was not in control of the cable within the property. Time Warner eventually bought out the cable from the owners, but that was around 1995.

    If I'm not mistaken, I believe Pulseman was released on the Sega Channel.

    Great vids. All I ever heard of Sega Channel in the Uk were vague mentions in magazines. Still wanted it though, based on the concept alone

    I have one of those Sega Channel adaptors, came across one for cheap - it's nice to have for the novelty value - and the excellent intro music of course

    It appears their original website is still up too;

    http://web.archive.org/web/199703272...m/channel/now/

    If the "test drives" section was for demos like sonic 3d blast, how much of the games can be played in the genre menus like "the arcade" or "family room"? Surely not the full version?

    That would have been really awesome to have in the day. I wish we could somehow just get a site like that running today for online battles etc on the real genesis hardware using cable modems. Playing street fighter 2, chaos engine, speedball, nhl 94, general chaos with your buddies online for free would be sick. I love how sites with older computer games are still going strong online like that urban assault game mod etc.

    Hate to bump, but I remember the Sega Channel, though I never had it. One night in the mid-90s I was watching TV with my family, saw a commercial for it, and wanted it _really_ bad.

    Sounds like it was very influential to the gaming _and_ cable industry.
