Default Star Control II & buying a 3DO, is it worth it?

One day, in the early 1990's my brother and I were walking around in a mall and came across Babbages. In the window was a screen with a 3DO hooked up and it was looping the intro from Star Control II. We owned the original PC game Star Control and loved it. But needless to say, that "CGI" intro blew us away. We could never afford the 3DO at the time, nor anything else for that matter...but we knew we wanted that game. It never happened. Now I'm considering buying a 3DO, mostly so I can get SC II. However, I know its moronic to drop (from amazon/ebay) at least $150 for the system alone, another $50 for the complete game and most complete 3DO games seem to run in that price range. So, does this system have enough "good" games to be worth buying. I already have Gex on the Saturn, so what else is left? I've heard Captan Quazar is pretty cool...but still 2 games, is it worth it??

A 3DO contains next to no worthwhile titles.
I myself certainly don't see myself ever getting one, and I spent $300 on a TurboDuo.

for one thing never pay $150 for just a 3do system, if you pay that much you better get star control and a game gun with it for that price

most 3do systems should only cost around $50 just for the system and a controller max, but if you want a complete boxed FZ1 then i could see paying up to $150, i havent checked ebay in awhile but i couldnt see them skyrocketing in price in the past 3 years by 200%

i would recommend the FZ10 its lighter and cheaper to ship
i own all the US released 3do games but ive only played alittle over half of them, and many of them are still sealed (i just cant bring myself to open them)

these are the ones i like
    Star Control II
    Captain Quazar
Corpse Killer - (cheaper on the Sega CD just because the 3do game gun is expensive)
    Daedalus Encounter
    Dragon Lore
    FIFA Soccer
    Guardian War
Horde, the (also on the saturn)
    Icebreaker
    Incredible Machine
    Lucienne's Quest - (expensive)
Need for Speed - (the original not the crap they have today)
    Off World Interceptor
    PO'ed
Space Hulk - (better than the saturn version)
    Psychic Detective
    Quarentine
    Return Fire
    Road Rash -w/Music CD
    Robinson's Requiem
    Shockwave 1 and 2
    Super Wing Commander
    Wing Commander III
    Twisted the game show
    Zhadnost: The Peoples Party

i left out all the gamegun games i like

While that list makes me nostalgic for the mid-90s, I can't help but point out that many of those titles were ported, either to the PC, Saturn, or PSX.

Just be sure you're aware of what you're paying for.

If you get one, get Samuria Shodown! it is the best port from arcade(Blows SCD verison away). and if you have a kid of the age of 5, get Fatty Bears Fun pack, Really cool game for a kid. I also like the street fighter game as well. I paid 35 for my FZ1 system on ebay it came with a crap golf game and all hook ups and about 4 days later I found a box for the system only selling for .25 buy it now. I couldnt pass it up.

If you're hurting for Star Control II you might want to look into the public domain port of The Ur-Quan Masters:

    http://sc2.sourceforge.net/

It's basically the 3DO game made to run on Windows, Linux and MacOS X, among other systems. Good fun and well done.

I have a Panasonic 3DO. The original style with motorized tray load. I bought it last year out of the local classifieds for $30 with Alone in the Dark. I also bought Road Rash for it off EBay shortly after for about $10 and no shipping! I mainly wanted the system for Road Rash. When I was younger my friends and I rented the system with the two games I have now and some FPS with digitized actors. It was kinda a haunted theme and you had thompson SMG's with round mags. Thats all I remember about that one lol my friend really liked that game I liked Alone in the Dark, Road Rash and Need for Speed. It was the system we all wanted but no one could afford at the time. You know when it came out it was something above us all.

I'd honestly save the money and just use the FreeDO emulator...but that's just me.

Emulation can't beat the real deal. Just owning the system can bring back memories!
