Impressive... but it should have been a 6 button controller .

    Yup, shoulda been 6 button.

Maybe you can do the red/white design with that one.

    Beautiful!
Have you thought about doing this to the console too?

Maybe it's because I'm not a 'guitar person', but I wouldn't recognise it as a Van Halen design. It's obvious you've put a fair few hours into the making it look nice, though, good job!

In order to be 100% authentic, you must always be holding a cigarette as you play.

Are the stripes painted on or tape?

Thanks guys. The whole thing was painted with rattle cans, I only used tape to mask the black.

I may one day do a red frankenstrat scheme on a 6 button controller. I don't have any sitting around though so I could only use a three button one.

I did briefly think about doing my console like this, especially since I have a spare model 2 now. Actually I was considering doing some custom jobs and selling them since I airbrush as a hobby. What do you guys think? Obviously I would do a higher quality finish and not just Van Halen designs but you think it would work?

I think it would depend on the ideas for the airbrush work.

If you could set up a buisness for doing custom colours / designs I would be very interested. You could do a differant range of basic styles similar to XBOX 360 faceplates as well. I know i'd like to have one with a big blue 'SEGA' written over it and possible coloured buttons to match the japanese saturn controller.

I'd love to paint custom controllers for classic consoles and sell them at good prices. I see there are some custom NES consoles going on eBay for $100-150. I mean, that is @#$&ing ridiculous when you could just spend it on games. One of them is $70 because it's red for crying out loud.

Would any of you guys be willing to send me spare/junk controllers to practice on? You'd get the controller back and I'd paint it for free, just so I can get the hang of it. Then, when I know what I am doing better I can paint consoles and do serious designs with custom decals and stuff for money. Because right now I don't have much experience with controllers and I'd hate to paint something for money only to have it rub off while the guy is playing Lunar.

Once I can paint things and be confident that it is quality I hope to be able to sell custom classic console controllers and console cases for classic gamers on a budget. That would be really awesome, but I'd need support.
