Personally I don't think the idea of creating new states is absurd as long the local population in that area have a desire to form a state and can do so constitutionally

Here are some cool gadgets which have been unveiled in recent months. Some of them are only available through pre-order.

    Lily camera drone

The Lily camera is the world’s coolest throw-and-shoot camera. The company explains it lets “anyone create cinematic footage previously reserved for professional filmmakers”.

The Lily camera drone is waterproof, portable, and shoots HD picture and video. No controller is needed to fly the drone – it basically flies itself as shown in the video below.

The Lily camera drone is currently available for pre-order at $499. The Lily will start shipping in February 2016 at a retail price of $999.

    Genie private chef

The Genie private chef is a gadget designed to “create tasty, healthy, and personalized dishes – in less than a minute”.

The system uses a “Genie Smart Baking Pod” to produce meals within 30 seconds – essentially a Nespresso machine for food.

The Genie is not available yet, but the company is currently taking pre-orders.

    RocketSkates

ACTON unveiled its RocketSkates in July 2014. These smart electric skates make it possible for users to “simply strap on RocketSkates over their shoes and start cruising”.

RocketSkates are designed to be lightweight, and to function without the use of a remote control.

ACTON also integrated smart technology so that RocketSkates can connect with an app on users’ smartphones, which includes features such as route tracking, skate diagnosis, and battery status.

Three types of RocketSkates are available, priced between $499 and $699.

    C.H.I.P.

C.H.I.P. is a very small computer, similar to the Raspberry Pi, which runs a variantion of Debian Linux. The biggest selling point is that it costs only $9.

Next Thing Co, the company behind C.H.I.P., said the small computer can be used to work in LibreOffice, surf the web, and check email over Wi-Fi.

Users can also play games with a Bluetooth controller, and with dozens of applications and tools pre-installed C.H.I.P. is ready to go the moment you switch it on.

It is currently a Kickstarter project which has raised over $1 million – well above its target of $50,000.

Jefferson is such a significant name in American history, its strange it wasn't used already

Also I'm learning about American history before the Declaration of Independence, it seems no one goes that far back. http://www.ushistory.org/us/9.asp

Because many of the states have identities associated with them as well as a great amount of history / rivalries within themselves and with other regions. Some people wouldn't want their state abolished and combined with another state they don't particularly care for, and I'm one of them. I would never want Maryland to be a part of Virginia or vice versa. It would have more of an impact than just making a new border line, it would have a cultural impact as well, whether you're talking about food, sports, etc.

Well I think the eastern side of the states is fine, I.E. Maryland and Virginia.

But it seems to make sense that the southern and western states should be chopped up smaller, like Florida and California. You have such high population densities, its amazing they are even able to govern them in their current states(no pun intended).

And I am not mentioning Texas. Texas should become its own country again.

A lot of texans would probably disagree with you. As for southern and western, I can't speak for the western, but having lived in the south that's another area that cultural and other changes would not be welcome in to most people I ever knew there. I'm not saying any of this is rational mind you, and while this certainly isn't accurate for everyone there still are a ton of people who associate strongly with certain states. I don't know what its like in Canada, but there is such a thing here as "state pride".

It can be viewed however you want to view it but the fact that it exists and is prevalent in a multitude of different forms cannot be denied. It doesn't matter if you're talking food, sports, the sociological aspects of states (the south truly does have a vastly different mode of interaction from what I've seen than the north, even if you're talking about from Maryland to New Jersey.), or even political leanings. The Carolinas would probably go to war if they were ever merged with, say, Kentucky purely on the basis of their vast differences in barbeque.

And now to keep it somewhat random in random thread I HAS RUSSIAN DASH CAM

Texas becoming a country = joke.

We do have province pride. British Columbians like bragging about the mountains we got, and how Albertans gotta come over here to ride proper ski resorts. They have to spend their hard-earned dollars at OUR resorts

While Vancouver may be the Hollywood of Canada, Whistler and Blackcomb are highly overrated. Also, Alberta has a proper hockey team which loosed Wayne Gretzky into the world. And as far as I know they have not destroyed downtown Edmonton twice when losing a Stanley cup.

Pixelepsy it isn't really about states merging together, its about a chunk inside an existing state going independent. A couple counties could form their own state.

The 19th century State of Jefferson Proposal wanted to include counties from Oregon and California.

The modern State of Jefferson Proposal only wants to include counties from North California.

Think of it as breaking free from the rest of the state, and becoming your own.

Finally someone with a similar view as me. Whistler is absolutely overrated, for skiing and mountain biking and overall awesomeness. I'd much rather go to Kicking Horse.
