It's amazing how one piece of news can turn your entire life upside down. Especially news you've been dreading and fearing you would never have to hear. The last week has been a blur.
I should've gotten this DVD player instead:

Hes just a tall guy trying to cope with this average-sized world.
Also I've been thinking. I grew up in West Canada, so I know enough about the Wild West. I was taught it in school, I've been to authentic ghost towns etc.
But what do Europeans and Aussies think of that stuff? is it exotic? even the non-fiction elements? I don't hear much about their take

Well being European I grew up on Spaghetti westerns, which was fucking awesome!
as for it being exotic.. I dunno, I think wild west stories have a certain flair and its certainly a big part of my life.
I mean I grew up on the Lucky Luke cartoons and Clint Eastwood. and I own quite a bit of Wild West movies.
So.. any questions in particular?
In answer to that I would like to post this little picture:
Those are myself and my (now) wife. About two to three times a year we are acting at a Western Convention in Germany. In that picture she played the part of the doctor (nowadays she usually plays the part of, well, my wife ^^), while I am cast in the role of the Marshal. Actually we just came back from one of those events that took place over the past weekend. Needless to say, we are both huge Western fans.
Many Germans grew up reading novels written by Karl May in their youth, a german author who wrote many western novels in the late 19th and early 20th century (despite the fact that he never even once visited the US). His books are somewhat akin to the style of James Fennimore Cooper ("Last of the Mohicans"), but they still have their own flavor and usually take place in the post Civil war US. Those stories are still very popular in Germany as well, and there are at least two festivals celebrating him and his books once a year each.
In fact, for a few months now I've been toying with an idea of mine. When people are talking about Westerns, they usually refer to the US films and the Italian "spaghetti" westerns. But what about other countries? I have dozens of Western movies that were produced in Australia, Germany, Mexico, South America, and even a few produced in Japan, South Korea, India or Scandinavia. I was toying with the idea of maybe making a few YouTube videos about those, raising awareness for those "unamerican" westerns so to speak (not to mention the really unamerican ones that were shot in communist countries - yes. such westerns exist, and they are very unique, to say the least). Would anybody on this forum be interested in such a channel?

The funny thing about an oxymoron is, even if you remove the ox, there'll always be a moron. The Question Remains: Y?
