I'm not trying to be a dick here, but if I took a game to a publisher and they were unable to release the game without a kickstarter I would refuse to do business with them. When I worked for a car parts distributor, we had a company that refused to let us sell their components because we couldn't front enough money, but I guess the car industry is different from the games industry.
Well I like to think that that all came from the early home PC stuff, like C64/Atari ST/Amiga cracker intros, which would often incorporate music like that.
of course a lot of those home pcs were mostly popular in Europe, and it wasn't until much later that the media realized this and you got stuff like GTA Vice City opening with a C64 screen.
Of course you can say that "barely existed" implied that nobody knew about 80s home pcs, but that would be the American view on it.
In the 80s this stuff was huge, I remember going to grade school and everybody would talk about it, about the new game their dad got for their weird new home pc.
So yeah, to me as a European synth music means that exciting time where home pcs exploded onto Europe, and of course Miami Vice with its synth music, and Van Halen.
Oh I know I was little but I was there. My earliest memories of pop culture come from my Mom who listened to large doses of Oingo Boingo and Devo. That was like 84/85 living in California listening to KROQ. I actually have a bunch of tapes she recorded off the air. They seemed to have a lot fun more than anything. When we moved to Arizona in 86 it was like a wasteland, no good stations, no water. One of my teenage cousins just watched bad hair metal on MTV all day long and the other had a ZZTop Keyfob. Speaking of Deco my Mom and Aunt were really into it and Nouveau. Thank god people put the shirtwaists away. It is interesting to see that aesthetic show up in everything, hell it's in Blade Runner. I remember that 80's macho bullshit feeling that pop culture promoted so much in the air more than anything. As far as Synthwave yeah that was very very early on well before my time. I love it but it gets harder to find the real thing vs stuff made by hipster kids.
Oh I totally agree, I haven't looked into that N64 publisher(and if its really necessary for them to use it), but some companies don't treat Kickstarter as a last resort, which it should be.
Kickstarter cheapens brands and lowers expectations. Like don't get me wrong I'm excited for Shenmue III(if it ever comes out), but I'd be more excited if the game was funded by a publisher because that means a publisher has enough faith in it to take a financial risk. Which wasn't the case.

And just like that, I go into my game room this morning to notice I left Sonic 2 playing on my Genesis for the past 2 days. 48+ hours of nonstop attract mode, and the thing isn't even warm. I love my Genesis.![]()
Sat here binge watching old episodes of Unsolved Mysteries on Amazon Prime. I love the tone and atmosphere that host, the late great, Robert Stack brought to it. I have to say though that I don't remember quite this many unsolved murders or missing people featuring in each episode. I watched it for the ghost stories, bigfoot sightings, UFO sightings and stuff like that but it was actually more like another version of America's Most Wanted now that I think about it. It's frightening how many cases of unsolved murders and missing people were never solved too. Makes you wonder just how many people have literally got away with murder and are walking free out there.
Thats pretty amazing.
Also if anyone is curious, I'm mostly a 32-bit-and-above gamer nowadays. I'll play NES/SMS/SNES/Genesis/PC-Engine a couple times a year. I kinda feel like these consoles are reaching the same fate that the 2600 reached in the 2000s, just getting too primitive and falling into obscurity. Like its very rare nowadays that people play pre-NES consoles like the Colecovision and 2600. So I suspect that will soon be the same case for pre-PS1 consoles.

I don't think I'll ever fall out of love with the 16-bit era or stop playing my Mega Drive/Mega CD. Granted I don't play them as much as I used to but that's more down to life getting in the way than it is anything else. Perhaps it's a generational thing, see I started gaming in the 16-bit era and have little to no interest in the previous 8-bit generation. I do love the 32-bit era and the 128-bit era but nothing gives me the same buzz that I got back in the day playing on my Mega Drive. I've no doubt that nostalgia plays a large part as I do seem to suffer from chronic nostalgia.
Yeah... I don’t think so. Compare the number of games available right now that bank on 8-bit and 16-bit nostalgia to the number of games trying to recapture the weird, clunky graphics and cameras of the 32-bit era. It’s like a 500-to-1 ratio, at least.
Pretty sure you have it backwards.
