This forum would probably be better if Melf just nuked the Off Topic thread altogether.
For me, 1080 is enough at the moment as I have no kit that goes beyond this resolution, and have no plans to either.
One question I have: How well (typically) would a '4K' set scale anything below 1080? 1080 would be OK I guess given it's a straight x2 scale, as when I do eventually upgrade I'm interested in the 480 / 576 ranges and their appearences. Just in case my OSSC's x3 / x5 output resolutions aren't supported.
And yes, off topic has been gettin weirder of late.
How else are we to weed-out the creeps from the cool people without Off-Topic?![]()
It's pretty amusing, and oh so coincidental I'm sure, how a certain member trolling the boards is banned, then a few days later, another totally unrelated member (!) who hasn't posted in years (who has been known to troll in the past as well I might add) ,returns to post in the exact same thread?
Strange, isn't it?
I have a Sony XBR43X800D 43-Inch 4K TV.
It has HDR.
I might not be the right person to ask in that super fidelity pictures aren't the end all be all for me (though, to be fair, I did buy a 4K TV, so the do matter somewhat).
Still...I've found 1080p and 720p stuff look perfectly fine to me (Yes, the Switch UI looks a little blurry, but in practice I don't really notice. I pick my game and go). If I stop to look at Rocket League closely, it's pretty jaggie, but then I actually play the game and its fine (60fps is more important in my opinion).
I will say playing NES/SNES/Genesis games directly to the TV actually looks pretty bad. I still play them that way because I'm lazy, so they're still functional, but if you want better fidelity, get a Framemeister or one of it's equivalents.
Standard DVDs look OK...not great, but not horrible.
My particular model has a VA panel (subsequent models and the 49' and up have IPA models).
The VA panel sacrifices a wide viewing angle and being good in a lit room for better black levels and being better for a darker room.
Directly to your question, cleeg, different set handle that upscaling from the 480/576 range different than others, so maybe focus your research there. My TV was deemed (barely) adequate by online reviews. In practice it's good enough. the XBR43X800D was considered one of the best sub-1000$ 4K TVs for gaming (it has pretty low lag and low latency).
Bloody Marys and Mojitos? Nice!![]()
