Does anyone else find it strange when someone has a join date from a few years ago, but has only recently made their first post? I'm not referring to anyone in particular, it seems to be a fairly common occurrence on this forum.
Very true.
But I think you have a keener nose for shenanigans like that, so I wasn’t going to question.

Can anyone here recommend a decent, preferably inexpensive capture device that isn’t a piece of shit and works with windows 10?
I joined a couple years ago under a different name but the account was never approved and TBH I forgot all about it. Then signed up a few days ago and it was approved after 2 days. Is it possible some just realized their account was approved? I don't doubt the suspicion could be some alts in there as well.
The timing of my post was not perfect. When I mentioned old accounts entering use recently I wasn't referring to alt accounts, though I can see why you thought I did. I just find it strange to see someone make their first post when they have a join date from about five years ago. There can be a lot of different reasons for it, but still looks strange. I can't remember passwords for forums that I used regularly back in the day, so I would have no hope of remembering the password for a forum that I joined years ago and never posted in.
I bought this EZCap thing from one of the only two electronics stores in town. A quick glance at consumer ratings before purchase led me to believe that it was better than it was.
It sucks.
I went to the other electronics store (Best Buy) looking for something a little better, and they don't even carry them.
In my part of the world, Fireball is really common and I love it
Heres the thing:
I use a late 2000s Hitachi 1080p TV and its really good at upscaling 480p.
But I used to have 2 newer 1080p TVs in my household and they weren't that good at doing it. Like playing Wii and DVDs and PS2.
So I could imagine that using a 4K TV would be the point where its necessary to get an external upscaler for 480p content. Even with 1080p TVs its not always that good.

EZCap is Chinese garbage, the thing has been cloned and cloned again, it's unreal. I even fell for that shit. Just steer clear of USB dongle capture devices in general, chances are it's an EZCrap under the hood.
If you have a desktop PC, you could get a PCi capture card like this one which is reasonable priced, but it lacks certain inputs, as well as it being limited to 30fps.
EDIT: It just hit 12am over here, so it's now the 20th - I've now officially been on S-16 for ten years. Man does the time fly.
I'll hit my ten years this August, looks like.
And hell... I'm interested in recording some gameplay (SD & HD), but I'm not quite ready to drop down $100 yet. That PC capture card looks promising, but my computer isn't in the same room as the games... plus it doesn't look like it offers component hook-up.
