I'm sure many of you guys already know this, but it was originally "Alice N' Chains." Both Cantrell and Staley were in Guns N Roses tribute bands.

As a musician & a guitarist I respect Slash, but he's a terrible songwriter & is highly overrated. He has his own sound, and that's cool. Other than that, he's only a part of what was Guns N Roses, which is evident when you compare GnR's last album to SnakePit/Velvet Revolver. Izzy was what made GnR as awesome as it was. (Old GnR>>>>>Axl-GnR>>>VR)

As far as VR gos, Jerry Cantrell isn't an exceptional lead singer, but he can sing well enough on his own. His solo work was great, but there was a reason Layne Staley was the front man in AiC.

VR should have snagged Devin Townsend or Mike Patton and tried something 'brand new.' Both are amazing eclectic solo artists with ridiculous talent as singers/songwriters.

They both have habits involving multiple bands at the same time too, so it's still 'possible', only highly improbable.
