I got so bored that I decided to stick video game controllers into the bell of my trumpet as if they were mutes. I tried every kind of controller I had:
-Genesis 6 button: did not do a thing
-Genesis 3 button: also did nothing
-Original X-Box controller-s: Actually, this muted alright. The notes still seemed in tune and it didn't sound too awful.
-Atari 2600 controller (rubbery repro. and plastic Flashback 2) Rubbery joystick repro. actually sounded pretty good, notes seemed in tune. Plastic one sounded much worse
-N64 controller: did nothing
-Saturn model 2 controller: did nothing
-Dreamcast: seemed to do a little bit, but not much.
-NES: Nothing
-SNES: Nothing
-Arcade Machine: Really muffles and messes up the sound.
-Fighter Stick SG-6: Actually didn't sound too bad as long as you stuck the joystick in first.
-X-Box 360: BIG SHOCKER. It actually sounded like a mute (like my one straight mute)! I'm serious! If you pay trumpet and you're caught without a mute and there's one of these laying around, you might just be able to get away with using it.
So, top 3 best controllers to use as mutes: 1) X-Box 360, 2) Atari 2600 joystick with rubbery joystick, 3) Fighter Stick SG-6 with joystick put in first. Original X-Box Controller S is a close 3rd.
Wasn't that the most useful and interesting you've read all day?![]()
I played trumpet for exactly one year in middle school, I really only did it to get out of PE.
I was pretty decent at the thing, but after being sick over x-mas break (the entire break) I somehow lost the ability to play it even as good as I had been.
I might have stuck with it had I remained in a state that allowed you to forgo PE for things like band. And the stories I hear from my wife about the shenanigans that happened on HS band trips...well, that would have been incentive to stay in band as well.
Oh well.
"And this one time, in band camp..."
The funny thing about an oxymoron is, even if you remove the ox, there'll always be a moron. The Question Remains: Y?

Holy Shit!
