Oddly enough, even with my entomophobia (A fear of pretty much any sort of bug/insect), spiders don't bother for the most part. I can watch Arachnophobia and be fine, and actually understand the conversations about phobias and the like.

I'm still that way pretty much. Not so much as the water being over me, but it taking control of my body and knocking me down/pulling me away.
So ocean vacations aren't the best for me, but I'll play pool volleyball for hours.

I also fear spiders / water. (Never learned to swim properly - isn't that sad?) And yeah, water spiders would probably shit me right up, too.
