Like someone before me said... ZOOL. Everywhere I see people talking about how it's such a lame game. But it is really good. Worth finishing. Yes, the screen is zoomed in a bit far, but the game is still very playable and fun. The bosses are extremely hard... even though I've played that Bee boss many times, I still don't understand his pattern (that is if he even has one). Guitar boss was cool too.
I have both versions of J&M and I enjoy them both because the core gameplay is pretty solid. But this is a case where the Genesis version is the clear winner, IMO
I have J&M sitting on the shelf, I havn`t touched it yet.... maybe I should.
Some people are posting un-unsong titles <_<
Add Devil Hunter Yohko and Magical Hat Turban adventure to the list, Japan only games though..
EDIT: i didnt notice that Turban adaventure was already mentioned, Decap Atack as its known outside of Japan.
Yeah Devil Hunter Yohko has a cool first level, climbing that vine and all. I like that. I like the box art and stuff too. Dahna is another Japan-only title that's kind of good, or has a nice vibe about it anyway. I like the horse part.
High Seas Havoc: Yes, this is another game that can fit in the category of Sonic clones. It got good graphics but the difficulty after stage 4 can be annoying for some players. Still, it's a good average platformer if you're looking for something to play on your Genesis and are not afraid of a challenge.
The Flintstones: A pretty decent and colorful platformer by Taito.
Chuck Rock II: Some people don't like it, but it thought it was enjoyable and way better than the first Chuck Rock. There's some cool effects too.
Osomatsu-kun - Hachamecha Gekijou: This one is pretty strange, it's an old Mega Drive game (1988) where you control a guy who attack with a slingshot. Although it's an old game, it looks pretty decent graphically! It can be found cheap too.
Magical Hat Turban adventure: It was mentioned before, this is the game that was modified to become Decap attack over here. I like this original version better... Both game have enough differences to be considered two different games.
Doki Doki Penguin Land: Well, this one is not exactly a platformer, it's more a puzzle/platformer game. But I like the cutesy of the game, some later puzzle are very challenging and well thoughts. It was never released in cart format though.
Asterix and the Power of the Gods: Pretty good Europeen exclusive! It recreates the cartoon pretty well!

Another unsung platformer that I think is good is Marko. The character Marko has a magic soccer ball that can be used as a projectile attack against enemies and also can be used to spring one up to unreachable platforms. It's a unique and creative wrinkle on the platforming genre that really works well.
I've been looking forward to playing the magical troll game.
I always thought PSone was the second (scaled down) iteration of the system. Just like PSTwo is the slim PS2.
or, did I just make that up?
Since stumbling upon the Game Gear Doraemon I've been keenly interested in the Mega Drive version. The Game Gear game is pleasant solid quality easiness, of which you've given me the impression the Mega Drive version is.
and, Paper Scissors Rocks - oh my! Sort of like Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle. What an odd game that was to be playing at launch back in 1989 ...fully looking for something like SuperMarioBros, and then finding myself jumping on VW beatles and selecting paper scissors or rocks to defeat bosses. I hated it then but have secretly loved it ever since
It has an awkward awesomeness.
but not quite as awesomeness as
and Paper Scissors Rocks! not to mention other Punky Skunk type mini games and multitudes of other awesome unique Namco ingeniousness.

I think it looks interesting enough...
definitely on my "want to get around to eventually playing it" list
tldr
what you say again? Sega Channel
I'm pretty sure singing praise for MJ's Moonwalker makes one queer.
What he said. Seriously. No, for real. Seriously.
Weren't there significant changes made between the two games? Or was it just a sprite swap?
oh, two posts later...
Now we're getting somewhere!!!
Great suggestions!
I've long wondered about High Seas Havoc. iirc it got mixed reviews back in the day, and I think ever since... that was by Vic Tokai, was it not? Of course they did the Trouble Shooter games too, or did they just publish them?..
The Core platformers never really won my fancy. though they were enjoyable, they never really went all the way. Chuck Rock II on SegaCD has been on my agenda for the past couple months, coincidentally enough...
NeoZeedeater just did a Penguin puzzle game thread over at TNL, Doki Doki Penguin Land is one I've overlooked for far too long.
and here's the only one in the thread that I've actually never heard of: Asterix and the Power of the Gods[/B] thanks for the info!
Now that all is said and done.
I think I'm going to go play some Marvel Land
crapI've wasted my evening making this thread, and now I've gotta go to bed.
Wolfchild is fun, especially the Sega CD version w/ a bitchin' soundtrack
totally late to the game, but anyone mention Chakan yet? I never hear anyone talk about it but it had some great effects for its time and is a really solid Castlevania style game. It has one of the very few stories I actually care about in an early 90's cartridge based game.
