I didn't really get a Game Boy until around 1997, which pretty much meant I got to play: Operation C, Kirby's Pinball, and WWF Superstars 2 for around a year, during which I bought Mario Land 2 and Kirby's Dream Land new, then found Links Awakening. Pretty much played the crap out of all those.

Until Pokemon came out, and I got Red Version and a Game Boy Pocket soon after. Nothing else mattered. I forgot how addicting that game really was. Not the tv show, not the card game, not the video game BASED on the card game, but the original Red and Blue versions. I beat Gold and Silver, and never really was interested in it after that. I bought Pearl when it came out, but I never got back into it. It's pretty much my brothers now.

I don't even have a working unit right now I don't think. Instead I grabbed a Super Game Boy and got addicted to Mole Mania.

This thread made me go back and play Kirby's Dream Land 2. Great game, although the controls could be a smidge better (no double tap to run, and sometimes I 'accidentally' fly). It takes advantage of the Super Game Boy pretty well.

Interestingly, I did not find a single microphone or candy in Dream Land 2. I didn't remember DL2 lacking them.

There's a Blue GBC at my local Gamestop for $9.99. Tempting, but if given the choice between GBC and GBA SP, it's a no brainer.

I remember when I was thinking about a GBC or a GBA a few years ago, but I decided to get the GBA because it allowed me to play the most games out of all the GB systems.

And I didn't get an SP because it is uncomfortable to hold the damn thing.

But it's backlit, which makes up for everything.

I hated the GBA untill the SP turned up, the GBA really should have had a backlight screen from the start, and the rechargeable battery in the SP makes life much easier too.

NDS (lite) is pretty nice... buttons should be little bigger... but it doesn't play GB(C) stuff... I do have GB but I don't really enjoy Tetris, which is the only game I have for it.

GBA SP is a great console.. It actually gets more playtime than any of my stationary consoles and a good chunk of it is original GB.

Gargoyle's Quest - Nice take on the Zelda 2 formula.
Link's Awakening - The best 2D Zelda game. Nay, the best Zelda game.
Blaster Master Jr. - Sweet music, huge bosses and it plays kinda like bomberman.
    Donkey Kong '94..

But what am I doing listing games when I can just show you this vid:

I don't like the SP's uncomfortably cramped vertical layout -- something I always disliked about the GB, that they finally rectified with the original GBA, and then went back on. I also don't like the lack of a headphone jack -- wtf's up with that? But I do like the clamshell-ness, the frontlit (not backlit) screen, and the rechargeable battery. Bottom line, they never made the perfect GBA system. I usually play my GBA games on the Game Boy Player; occasionally (or when I have to, ie for Wario Ware Twisted) I use my DS. And since the GB Player isn't so great for original GB games, I use a Super Game Boy for those.

I do own a GBC (the atomic purple one) along with my GBA SP... I found it at a Goodwill last year for $4.99 and couldn't pass it up. I also have a Super Game Boy. No Game Boy Player, but I'll probably get one someday.

I agree that the GBA should have been back-lit and I don't know why the SP was able to be but not the GBA. 10+ years of making handhelds and they still weren't able to make it back-lit? Please.

The SP is back-lit and the GBA is easier to handle. I'm used to angling the GB to get optimum light, so doing it on an GBA was no problem.

No, but you can yourself, there were internal backlight (frontlight) kits for the original GBA, the first one I got (second hand) had one installed and it was excellent.

Yeah, those afterburner kits and such were great. The original GBA still had a scratch-prone screen IMO, but yeah, that would be the closest to a perfect GBA. Added bonus, it even works with Kirby Tilt n' Tumble.

I still prefer my GB Player though. Playing a handheld for long periods of time hurts my neck, and a lot of GBA games were pretty much console games. I don't mind using the DS for the few games that require portability. Some games have a lot of graphical detail that's kind of lost on the small screen. Circle of the Moon for example, other than being dark, has very detailed graphics that you can't really see even on a lit GBA. On the Game Boy Player it's a gorgeous game (except for the 3-frame dash animation).
