I'm sure there is a sailor joke inside all this Shenmue talk.

I've always been a big Marvel vs Capcom 2 fan.

For some, yes - especially when a lot of people make it sound like a life simulator, or a massive RPG.

Well, problem is people like to repeat what Yu Suzuki was bragging about; the whole "go wherever you wanna go, do whatever you wanna do"-shit.

    Indeed, that is untrue.
Shenmue is actually pretty limited in what the player can do. "Wow, the player can take a job with a forklift!". No, he cannot; he must. And there are no other jobs around.
Shenmue tries to fool the player into thinking he can do everything; but soon you see that there are only a few things you can buy, and only few minigames you can spend time with. It does not fullfill Sega-s promises of FREE.

It is just an adventure with an interesting real-time-component, nice story and seemingly lively setting. But you can never buy the toaster you see in the shop, nor even choose to talk about it. And 90 % of all the peole on the street are dummies who repeat the same lame quotes all the time.

Sega promised something they could not keep; but it is still a very nice Adventure with a special feeling to it.

BTW, congrats, that was your post no.4000!

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. It has the veneer of a life sim but is actually pretty shallow.

    And now...it's OVER FOUR THOUSAAAAAND!

What I found odd (other then you have a Sega Saturn in 1986 when it should be a Mark III) was in the Shenmue universe Sega distributes their games as prizes and you can't actually simply buy them.

I still play mine on a regualr bases.

Games I own for the system and that anybody should pic up are

    Sonic Adventure 1
Evil Dead Hail to the King
Fatal Fury Mark of the Wolves
Sword of the Berserk Guts Rage
    Gunbird 2
    Project Justice
    Resident Evil 2
    Star Wars Episode 1 Racer
Listen. And understand. That Metal Sonic is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead. - Knuckles
