The history of gaming that gets told is very much more skewed in Nintendos favour than it should be.

Thats because the most well known games were on a Nintendo system, people just naturly asume them to be first.Originally Posted by playgen
Like, If I were to mention Dragon Quest in school. most people will know what I', talking about. If I mention Phantasy Star. I might at athe very least get one answer. NOTE: THIS DOSE NOT MEAN PHANTASY STAR IS A BAD GAME. IT IS AWESOME AND MORE PEOPLE SHOULD PLAY IT.
Anyway, back on topic.
I always liked Bubsy. I don't think it's a terrible game: Just dificult.

Back on topic - no mention yet for Ristar? Not a complete rip-off perhaps, but very much influenced by Sonic, and a great little game.

Well more like gaming history is always told from the American perspective even in European press, such as the world wide game crash that wasn't.Originally Posted by Elusive

yeah, I never understood that. Yeah, the NES was pretty much the first system to have games with real depth and somewhat clear graphics, but the Super NES was only slightly more capable than the genesis (and inferior in some ways), the N64 sucked, the Virtual Boy sucked hard, the Gamecube sucked, so why does Nintendo get all this credit when every system since the NES and SNES was garbage? I'd take a dreamcast over a gamecube any day.Originally Posted by playgen
As for sonic rip offs, there is a sequel to rocket knight adventures for SNES called "Sparkster," though it doesn't really feel like that much of a rip-off to me though it gets labeled as such. Its a really great game though, it almost makes you think you are playing a playstation one game or something with the sound and graphics quality.
actually Ristar was the prototype for Sonic, but they decided against it because they wanted the gameplay to be faster. Later, they went back and realized it was a good concept and released it. I just got my copy in two days ago as a matter of fact, even though I've been emulating it for years and had it unlocked on the sonic mega collection (which I bought before I got my genesis, and then proceeded to re-buy them all in cartridge form).Originally Posted by ZJT

Thank you very much. Your post gave me much joy. I must've laughed about that for over an hour. I find it very silly that there still these "NINTNDO SUCKS! SEGA FOREVER." People out there.
Bubsy 2 wasn't as good a 1, but it was still good.
Part of that is because Nintendo is still around and thriving.Originally Posted by playgen

hmmm...no gamecube? could that be because IT SUCKS? Technically the Wii can play gamecube games, yet I have yet to even have the desire to buy a measly Gamecube controller and memory card to play gamecube games on it. In fact, I only own 3 games for the Wii, 2 of which I got with the system and 1 I bought because I was hoping it would make me feel like I didn't waste my money. I haven't used my wii more than twice in the last 6 months, I wish I would've eBayed it last christmas. On the other hand, I've been playing the shit out of my Dreamcast since I got it a month or 2 ago. Aside from tech specs, the gamecube is worthless: the controllers suck, the mini discs are stupid and pointless, almost every decent game is available for PS2 (usually in a superior form since it was ported to gamecube). All any Nintendo system since SNES had was first party titles, and honestly mario just isn't enough anymore. NES and SNES had legendary games from Square, Konami, Capcom, etc., but all of the good stuff shifted to Sony with the Playstation because no one wanted to put up with Nintendos stupid hardware designs anymore. "I know, lets make it use cartridges so the memory is extremely limited and the textures are super blurry and look like total ass!" N64 could've had near Dreamcast graphics if Nintendo would've just used a damn CD, and then games wouldn't have been $70+.
I didn't even get my first Genesis that was truly mine until 3 or 4 months ago, I had NES, SNES, and N64 growing up. The only Sega system I had for years was Game Gear, and that got more play than my NES because of games like Sonic and Streets of Rage 2. As a kid, I believed all the BS Nintendo fanboy hype and thought the SNES was automatically better than Genesis, the N64 was better than playstation, etc. While the SNES does have its strong points like mode 7 and sheer image and sound quality, and I don't really regret getting it per say, the Genesis is an outstanding system. N64 and Gaycube are garbage, plain and simple, I ran out of A/V ports so currently my N64 isn't even plugged in. Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were the only games worth a damn, and to a lesser extent Wave Race (which I still enjoy from time to time). Its not a matter of being a fanboy, its looking beyond data sheets at what games are actually out there, and considering how short the life of the Dreamcast was, it has some OUTSTANDING games. I think Sega will always be my favorite hardware company, especially when it comes to controller designs, followed by Sony, then Nintendo, then Atari, then Mattel, then hobo on the corner that does LSD to think he made a video game system, then Micro$oft, because everyone knows XBOX is the biggest disgrace to this planet ever made. And don't get me started on how many times I wanted to believe XBOX was a decent system and Halo wasn't a half assed rip off of Perfect Dark, but it just isn't so...
ok, enough ranting, back on topic:
I played some awesome possum today and it doesn't seem as horrible as people say it is. Sure its definitely no Sonic, and nowhere near Sparkster on SNES (I know its not Sega but damn that version is SO GOOD), but for <$5 its worth a play.
I thought the Gamecube was a huge improvement over N64. But let's not get started on the N64 because that subject's been done to death. But really, Gamecube had some great games, and the best versions of a sizeable minority of multiplatform titles.
I also love the Wii. I actually own 34 games for it. A handful are mediocre but I'd say I have 30 titles that are definitely good games. And there's about a dozen games that I want but haven't gotten yet. And a lot of upcoming games that I really want.
I like the original Xbox a lot too. I own exactly 50 games for it and have a pretty long want list. My big complaint with the Xbox is how Microsoft killed it off early. Who do they think they are, Sega or something?

I don't really hate on the x-box but im not real about it either, but the controllers desintegrate at an alarming rate! The rubber comes right off the analog its crazy. Fight night could play a part in that though as those sesions can get mean
Gamecube has plenty of great games, including some class Sega games like Beach Spikers, Super Monkey Ball and Fzero GX.
Xbox is brilliant because it has the mighty Outrun 2.
If you like Dreamcast then you should check out Sega's games for Gamecube and Xbox, because many of them were supposed to be Dreamcast games.
