All Shrek 2 had going for it was Puss n Boots. I love all of his ass-kissing jokes and the expression on his face when he is coughing up a hairball (up until the totally unnecessary moment where he actually announces that he has coughed up a hairball).
Shrek 1 was . . . okay. People acted like it was the first time a "kids" movie was filled with adult-oriented humor and pop-culture references, or that Mike Meyers hadn't ever used a Scottish accent before.
