I was unaware that Ristar didn't have region lock... I'm in the same boat, I might pick up the pal version if this is the case. Does it run slower or faster or whatever?

It's the system that would affect the speed, so it runs normally in a Genesis.

I've wanted a complete Ristar for a while now. Finding one complete is a real challenge if you're after a North American copy, but there always seems to be plenty of Complete and mint PAL copies for sale. I gave in and bought one.

Now the game has arrived and I've seen that PAL certainly is different. The end label on the Ristar cart doesn't actually have the Ristar name labeled on it. Also the manual is in several hundred languages including English, Spanish, German, Klingon, Wookie, and even French. On the back of the game's box we find that in PAL land they do not have ESRB, but instead ELSPA. This is because some games might be acceptable for people aged 11-14, but not acceptable for 18+. Everything is so blue on the packaging. It's very unique and you'll definitely be able to tell where Ristar is among the rest of games which are mostly black or red. No region lockout means I'm enjoying this game on my Genesis.

Now once this damn test is over with I'll actually play the game.

Ristar is not only region free, it's actually a multi-region cartridge, which means the same variant of the cartridge is used for multiple regions. If you get the PAL version of the game, you're getting the exact same cartridge contents as you would have, had you bought the US version.

Funny to read your reactions on the PAL packaging, cheaterdragon. The blue boxart and multi-language manuals are so... normal over here, that it's strange to think anyone finds it special.

My Black Thursday Walmart haul. They only had 4 copies of each game, so it was definitely slim pickings. Thankfully, the lady in front of me that was closest to the display was kind enough to grab both Batman and BF 3 for me. The 360 display had the most traffic, so I was S.O.L. trying to get Gears Of War 3 with only 4 copies available. The PS3 display had the less antsy, more civil people and that made the wait awesome.

That's good for eBay. In the wild you can get luckier, but that's hit and miss. I think I paid $8 for my CIB SFII; ironically I paid more for SFI.

MORE IMPORT GOODIES!!! 99 Of them to be precise. I now have about 20% of the Super Famicom Set - only about 1100 to go .

This was (perhaps) my last purchase for the year... so I made it a big and expensive one.

That's one amazing haul right there. I can see a JP Crue Ball over there to the top left. I can also see Tetris 2 + Bombliss, one of my favorite Tetris versions ever.

If you strain your eyes just right you can make out the green dragon thingy in the center of the box as well as various gray and red writing. Entirely reflective box arts do not make for good pictures. But that holographic Enemy Zero sure looks like it's back-lit.
