From what I've seen it's down to a no-shipping contest between SA, Brazil and Italy. Don't know exactly what the poor Italians have done to be lumped with the rest of us outsiders, but that's the way it seems to be.
For what I have read, somehow the Italians managed to be reputed as having the most corrupt/risky/unsafe/pricey postage service (many stealing cases have been reported).
South Africa and Brazil are very similar in many aspects, including the awful public services and corruption levels AFAIK. This stuff we're talking about is usually directly related to poor government practices and corruption...

I was going to say the same thing. The reason I've seen given again and again was the risky/corrupt postal services those countries have, with stolen and "lost" packages happening too frequently for sellers to feel comfortable when dealing with them. So, the sellers ruled those countries out in terms of who they'll ship to.

I don't know about over there but it does seem to be getting better here. "They" are starting to crack down on corruption a bit more forcefully, or are at least seen to be doing so.

But specifically in terms of what were talking about, if you were to take my case in isolation (yeah I know you can't exactly make a solid argument based off of one example), one solitary item has gone missing over a period of over 2 years. And that was only a $10 purchase for some N64 game. So I don't know how much you can extrapolate from that, but as far as I'm personally concerned, postal/customs theft is almost a non-issue in my case.

It's like "shipping to Brazil will contaminate my eBay account, can't do" hehe. I lost the counting of how many times I had to beg sellers to ship to Brazil (and my feedback is 100% positive). Some will ship after a begging message, some won't; several will not even answer your message.
I used to be one of those sellers, except it was no to Brazil or Sweden. Postage to Sweden is really high for some reason. I had sold an item to Sweden for $30 and it would cost $80 to ship it there with the slowest method possible. Brazil was a problem because there was some website I read the import and duty laws. Basically they prohibit import of a crap load of things. And to actually ship to Brazil you need to mark as gift and value under $30 and HOPE that customs doesn't check it. I was fine for Brazil before one thing just disappeared at customs. I think by now the shipping industry in all these different countries has wisened up to the "gift" type shipment.

Anyways, since this site doesn't have a dedicated "collection" section (if it does, please show me) I started not taking pictures of new items, instead put them in their place and then take pictures. So you can see whatever else I might have. So in this pic, the new items are Wheel of Fortune and Triple Score. Both CIB.

I also got 2 loose carts, Sonic 3D Blast and Tom & Jerry. That pic I already posted with the tape case.

Also Midway Arcade Treasures 2 for PS2, which has some Genesis games on it like Hard Drivin'

Today I was gifted the THQ Collection by my uncle on Steam, and I got a $20 Steam gift card for myself.

The games I got with the gift card are:

    Amnesia: The Dark Descent
    Batman: Arkham City (GOTY)
    Borderlands (GOTY)

So yeah, a lot of games early in 2013!

Nothing video game related at the stores today, but I think this was a good find:

The thing is almost fully complete. I remember seeing this in the Lego Shop at Home catalog in the 90's, and now I finally have one, lol. 22 dollars.

    Today I acquired:

    Gauntlet IV
    Street Fighter II: CE
    Maximum Carnage
    Mortal Kombat
    Beavis and Butthead
    Sonic 2
    Madden '93

ALL CIB, for free, after tracking some bass for a record. Everything except Gauntlet IV and Maximum Carnage will be traded at the local gaming store for credit towards other titles I don't already own .

Hey TheSonicRetard, is that the DOS version of Turrican 2 or the Amiga version?

I was always interested in trying out the DOS version myself, and the C64 version actually.

I believe that's the Amiga box. The DOS version came with a different box design, and on a CD, if I recall.

My cart only SC has been upgraded to boxed, I just need a manual now. Total spent is $270, which is way below what this would sell for on ebay.

Went to my local media store for the first time in awhile and found some goodies

2013-01-05 Finds by xelement5x, on Flickr

    GBA
    -Klonoa
    -Super Mario Advance 2
    -Legend of Zelda Classic NES
    -Wario Land 4

Pokemon Silver [GBC] (dead battery, but already soldered in a new one)

    Tales of Destiny II [PS1]
    Original Xbox 360 120GB Hard Drive [360]

I'm keeping Klonoa and Wario Land, but having a friend sell the rest to cover most of the cost for Tales of Destiny II; but $40 is still a pretty darn good price for a copy in nice shape like this! I debated picking up the second copy they had for $40 as well to try and have my friend resell but figured I'd let another collector grab that one.

I bought the 360 Hard Drive so I could pull out the drive and put in in an enclosure to fit in my slim, now I can play original XBOX games again on my 360!

nice pickup, tales of destiny 2 is a great game. is $40 usually about what it goes for these days? I bought mine from k-mart back when they were having a store closing sale back in 2005 for $15.
