    It's because it doesn't have Blast Processing!

    I expected someone to make a comment about having enough time to DMA stuff (when using a lot of animation frames it becomes useful) and so I omitted the time your allowed to take any DMA loads.

    Without doing any DMA loading you get approximately 470 cycles per sprite, with 128 sprites at 60fps.

    Play Crackdown on the Gen/MD. With only few sprites on screen everything slowdown. And this wasn't a first-gen title at all.
