There are still a few Snes games where I like the music, but they're far and few, and nobody cares about the few songs I like, because most people only like the videogame music that Wikipedia likes.
There's just so much wrong with that post. What would you know of impressive for back then? The SFC is older than you. You have no clue about that time other than what you've read. And how do you know what most people like? A lot of people like video game music from that era from lots of different systems. If they didn't, you wouldn't have all these music rips.

the spc700 portable music player has to be the dumbest idea ever. "Hey let's listen to repeating samples of violens and trumpets with a lowpass-filter." When will people learn that music is about the feeling you get when listening to it, instead of it being about taking everyday ordinary sound and playing them in different notes?
Man, you really have no clue.

I dunno. Great melody, yeah, but it sounds really... artificial compared to later SNES music.

Now if we want to go with Mario music, let's go with Yoshi's Island.

Yeah I'm mainly thinking of that Piano song when your above the water. I love that song. I'm sure there are better SNES examples. 1st level in Starfox is badass!

I don't think I ever played Yoshi's Island. Well at least not enough to remember the music.

LOVE that music, Yoshi's Island is SOOO underrated in every way. Everyone dismisses it because of the "little kid graphics," but the whole reason the graphics are like that is because Mario is a baby so its a thematic element like its all through his eyes. But, many people are stupid and can't see that far into it and instead dismissed it in 5 minutes. Also you have to remember that it was developed by the Japanese and they have a different perception of cute things than America and many other countries. For them, cute stuff isn't reserved just for children.

Yoshis Island is a great game, I think its much better than Super Mario World myself, the level design is more unique and its cool to play as yoshi rather than Mario yet again. And indeed the music for the game is very well done. The only thing about the game is when mario gets knocked off and he starts crying - that sound is like someone running their nails down a black board.

Agreed Interestingly enough, ActRaiser's composer, Yuzo Koshiro, worked on the music for Legacy of the Wizard, Streets of Rage, Shenmue and several other memorable titles, including Super Adventure Island, which I previously mentioned.

I wonder if bypassing out the low pass filter in SNES sound output circuit improves the sound... Dreamcast gets extra crisp if you take its filter out (anything above 20KHz filter).

I believe it could be turned off in software, because I don't think every game has it...

read your own post again, and look at how much bullshit you assumed about me.

    1) I said in many many many times in many many different threads, I do not beleive ANYTHING wikipedia, or anyother bullshitting website say.

    2) I'm 17 years old, it's 2008, 2008-17=1991, and it is now May and my birthday is in November, so I was born in 1990; not in 1995 like you think I was. If you want to be an engineer or a programmer, do us a favor and LEARN BASIC 1st GRADE MATH!!! I knew how to add and subtract when I was only 5 years old. According to your "Tomeithian Calender" I was born knowing how to do basic addition and subtraction.

I think the point tomaitheous was trying to make is that while you say the Snes has crap music that wasn't impressive, since you are so young you wouldn't be able to appreciate how it was better than what came before. If you had been playing Nes, C64, SMS etc for years then you would have found the sound capabilities of the snes and the use of sound samples impressive when it came out.
