    HILARIOUS!!! What arrogance.

Nowadays, in the "SNK Playmore" era, you don't even get customer service. Hell, you've got to directly contact the president of their U.S division for that!!!

Man, they really ARE running a low-budget operation out here in the Northeast. I hear that they don't even publish their software, much less translate it. It's all outsourced, except it has their logo on it so you can't tell.

well, I put 24 bit in quotes because I don't know for sure, I've just been told that. But that letter is hilarious. If Sega games were so boring, how come I have 200 of them and only 7 Neo Geo games?

Those 7 Neo Geo games have so many "MEGabytes" they become more "fun". Just ask any true technician, he would know that is right.

Joe- Hmmm I'm going to ask a "true technician/engineer" about my Neo Geo game.

    (calls up a "true technician/engineer")

    Techmoron- Hi

Joe- I have a Neo Geo game, but I don't know if it's labled in megabits or in megabytes?

Techmoron- Hmmm, bring me that cartridge and I'll figure it out in about a week.

One week later, Joe goes to the "true technician/engineer" to pick up his cart

Joe- so is it in Megabits or in Megabytes?

Techmoron- I called up SNK about the chips and they told me they were in Megabytes. Thankyou, come again!

Joe- that still doesn't answer my question!

Actually, the 68k would be a 32-bit CPU "by modern definition":

    ...so it'd be 32+8= 40-bit
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.

it feels 32bit to the programmer but really is 16 bits, the ALU is 16 bit so the thing is 16 bit too... unless its a 68020 or better which are true 32 bits.

Something I've noticed, and I can't say that its true of the Neo Geo cartridge home system...but despite the excellent arcade ports i have for my Neo Geo CD...there is sometimes a buttload of slowdown. Metal Slug 2 seems to be the worst offender. Once things get crazy, the system slows to a crawl. Not to mention the loading times. I know the Genesis doesn't have the same colors/sound/size sprites...but still...I've yet to play a Genesis game where the slowdown made the game unplayable.

This is because the Neo Geo didn't have Blast Processing like the Genesis did.

I'm really beginning to hate wiki. 16bit ALU = 16bit CPU.

The shooters are where the Neo Geo shines...there are too many damn fighting games though.

The Neo Geo version of Viewpoint is the only really playable version too. The Genesis, Saturn and Playstation versions blow chunks. Major chunks.
