The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.
Then we set about developing killer games.

Turbo dongle thingy? You must mean the official Sega Rapid Fire Unit. I wish I still had mine. Works awesome for Light Phaser games.
Indeed.Originally Posted by Joe Redifer

And get the 3D glasses with some 3D games as well. They are soooo cool!![]()
yeah I have the Sega Rapid fire unit. Does that come with it? It just seems so strange not like something that would have been included.
Yeah I like the SMS controller (my cousin had one in the day) it was comfortable like an NES controller with rounder corners and bigger smoother buttons IIRC. I forgot to mention the 3D glasses in my video but I had planned to mention them. They plugged into the slot and I was going to mention them when talking about what the slot was for.
As for the SMS = Mark III I think I read on Wikipedia that it was but I don't know. I'll take your word for it (as you guys know what your talking about)
Well, the Mark III is comparable as it's bascially the same hardware (and the same games), but the Japanese Master System looks exactly like the European and North-American Master System. Those are just missing the FM2413 sound chip you could buy as an add-on for the Mark III and which the Japanese SMS had built-in:

Here's a list of games that do support FM music: http://www.smspower.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8714

Hey so whats the port for on the back of this thing?? Is that where the FM sound thing would have gone?
The jap master system has the 3d adapter built in.
A floppy disk unit was announced, but (I think) was never released. Some guy on SMSPower whipped up a replacement FM sound unit that could plug into there, too.Originally Posted by MN12BIRD

MN12BIRD, I had no idea that you had a Sega-16 account!
I subscribed to you on youtube a while ago, but hadn't noticed that you had an account here.
Anyways, you got yourself a good find there! I would get one, but I've got no more room with the gaming set up that I have in my room right now. I'll probably wind up getting one of those Tototek Sega Master System converters instead.
