    Great forums? Dunno 'bout that.

They're fantastic if you're a masochist. If you can get past the initial abuse from the old-schoolers though, there's some really good info and some really helpful members.

Grats on the buy! Even if those games are conversions (I really think that Metal Slug must be, since that game by itself should go for $1k), you still got a pretty good deal, IMO. I say keep all those games - it's a great selection.

There are a couple things you might want to do to your console. First, you may want to mod the video output for s-video or component. Second, replace the bios with the Universe Bios. That bios is the single best thing you can do for your Neo.

And keeping in the vein of posting pictures of our Neos, here's mine (yeah, I'm a cheapskate and went MVS and built a supergun):

Now that I see the S-Video mod: There's next to no way to play via RGBs in the US, is there ? No CRT with RGB-Scart ?

Go search on the tech forums about the RGB-Component transcoders. Model 1 Genesis SCART cables work with Neo Geo home systems, although some models of the home system have crappy RGB without modification. I actually use a Genesis 2 SCART cable plugged into a 32X AV cable adapter for my Neo CD. I traded the home system for a consolized MVS setup though, it already had component outs

    Nice setup 0x15e!

Myself, even though I'm happy as hell with my AES, I'm saving for a cab, most likely a big red or a candy

MVS, is that the arcade version of the AES right? I'm a cheapskate too, so would this be a good option for me if I wanted a Neo Geo? How much would you say one of these is worth? Does it play AES games?

MVS is indeed the arcade version, the AES carts are not compatible as SNK didn't want arcade owners buying the cheaper home versions. The MVS carts are now a lot cheaper than the AES ones, particularily for stuff like the Metal Slug games. A full MVS cabinet can be bought fairly cheaply, can be about the same as a boxed AES console, but of course shipping and finding room in your house are issues then.

You can get MVS boards, which can range from single cart slot versions to lots of slots, can't recall the top number. You'll need to connect that to your TV via its Jamma edge connector with a bit of kit commonly called a Supergun, which you can either build yourself or buy. A supergun also powers the MVS board and supplies controller ports, and you can hook up any other standard Jamma arcade game board to one too. Have a look on ebay, theres always MVS boards, Superguns and MVS carts up for grabs.

Adding to Playgen's post, I've seen 4-slot MVS boards (nice ones) for as low as $125 and 6-slots for a bit more (still need the cab to put it in though). If going MVS, you can also consider a consolized MVS board. These hook-up and play on just about any TV. I just sold a 1-slot modded by Neotropoliss for $250 through neo-geo.com. I sold it with the intent of getting a candy cab in the near future.

Strider and Playgen pretty much covered it. The basic idea is that the initial investment is a bit higher when going MVS and unless you go with a consolized system, they're generally not as convenient, but you save BIG later on when you're buying games. Generally, for the amount you'd pay for just one of the big ticket home carts (and not even including hardware), you can buy a whole MVS cabinet (or nice consolized system) and a stack of games.

For example, the one in my pic is a 2-slot board that cost me about $120 shipped. I built the supergun myself, which was probably about $120 in parts. Once you include a stick, it's about $300 total. The catch is, I've been able to get games for $30-$40 on average that would normally be $200-$300+ each.

Well, I couldn't wait, I used my stimulus check combined with the wonderful invention of credit to pick it up. So it is now in my possession and I will soon post photos.

    I also bought:

    Eightman $20

    Nam 1975 $49

Both complete with manuals. (did I pay a good price?)

AND!! because I paid it off so soon, the owner said I could help myself to any two genesis games I wanted for free!

I grabbed complete, boxed w/manual copies of Contra Hard Corps and Castlevania Bloodlines...I also got the box (just the box) for a Sega CD II which I've been looking for (he kept the neo system in this box, so it was an unexpected bonus).

I now own an AES Neo Geo and did my patriotic duty by spending the stimulus check.

I've already decided to sell Metal Slug 1 and Twinkle Star Sprites because I have MS 1 for the Saturn and as far as I can see, the saturn version is arcade perfect. I also have Twinkle Star Sprites for the Neo Geo CD. I think I'd like to get some $$ back.

How much do you plan to sell them for? I may be interested.

Anyway you may have paid a few dollars too much for Nam 1975, but not by a significant amount. Still, it is well worth the price you paid. Bonus if it is unmarked (many copies come from a country where they took a marker to mark out the cleavage and legs on the box cover).
