Help with Neo Geo...I'm so dumb

Okay, like an idiot, I dropped my power supply pretty hard the other day and its totally busted. The label's schematics are all gone (the label was torn but had the SNK logo on it...) and I don't know if my system is Japanese or NTSC, as I've read they use two different power supplies.

I used a universal switch for a little while and it made me nervous because the system only works part of the time and makes a loud buzzing sound when I use it...the universal adapter did not work at 5V but does (sort of) at 9V which leads me to believe its a Japanese system.

Before I buy a supply from the Neo Store here is what it says on the bottom of my system:

My Neo Geo has the same specs on its sticker, well the Serial Number is different obviously, but otherwise its identical. I use a Sega Master System power supply with mine, as the useless ebay seller I bought mine off didn't bother sending the genuine Neo Geo one and refused to afterwards. The sms supply works perfectly, it has the right connection too - its output is 10V 500mA

Question, when you put in an Amrican/Euro cart, does it read English or Japanese? If English, it's likely an NTSC console. If JAP, then it's a JAP console (unless you have an updated bios)

Check the voltage. It's quite common to use an SMS, Genesis 1, or Sega CD power supply on the AES.

Language / region doesn't make much difference as far as the DC in goes. It only actually matters for what kind of AC you can plug the power supply into at the wall. The USA one would use a 110V or 120V one and Japan would use 100V. That's really beside the point here, though, since you just need the appropriate DC going into your system.

There's a 5V and 9-10V AES. You can use the Sega power supply on the 9-10V one with no problem and it sounds like that's what you have. Also refer to this post. That guy knows what he's talking about.

Okay, its a pro pow 3 so it uses anything from 7-40 or whatever. But I've noticed that with the Genesis power cord, the system makes some strange sounds like a loud buzzing and sometimes the carts load with lines and distorted picture.

Do all games do that or just some? Did it do that with the other power supply? Neos are notoriously picky about dirty cartridge / slot contacts. Try cleaning all the contacts (both the cart and slot) with rubbing alcohol or an eraser if you an reach in there with it. At the very least, insert and remove the cart a few times (with the power off, of course) and try again. Sometimes, I even have to pull one side up a little bit higher than the other to get good contact.

I used to have to do that with Neo Turf Masters and my old AES. With my replacement, I can put each cart in all the way and it works. No graphical glitches like the old unit, either.
