    Default Linear PCM

When did video game consoles stop using this format for their music? Did it stop during Dreamcast or PS2?

What audio devices use nonlinear amplitude PCM samples? That would sound horrible. Unless you're referring to audio compression that's non linear (ADPCM), but the PCM output is still linear.

No I mean for example do Sega Dreamcast games use linear PCM so it does not sound as bad as Compressed MP3 files?

He means linear PCM in the form of redbook CD audio. Games like Shenmue were heavily compressed. Not sure if any DC games used CD audio.

    Moving to Insert Coin forum.

if CD audio was not used, some form of ADPCM is used, that applies to all machines I know with wavetable based sound stuff starting with SNES... I think latest machines have HW MP3 decoders in them...
