Default 1st rev Revenge of Shinobi wanted.

I would like to buy the first, unchanged edition of the US Revenge of Shinobi.
    Anyone have one for sale?

Argh... I hauled out my Revenge of Shinobi to see if it was the original version, and it won't load on any of my five Genesis systems. It's clean, no damage inside or outside the cartridge, not counting rental sticker residue and some label wear. Great, I own nearly five hundred games, and that's only counting individual discs and cartridges, not counting game collections as separate games, and ONLY REVENGE OF SHINOBI is broken.

    Ugh...
This is the internet. It means nothing. Don't believe otherwise.

Just buy a few copies and go through the game to figure it out. I eventually bought a copy from a guy who knew it was the copy for a fact... I bought it and sure it enough it had batman.

    Cost me a cool $20

it says on the title screen what REV it is, at least I think it did (maybe the original doesn't). Download a ROM of all the different Revisions and see what differences there are between them so if you find it at a game store you can ask to test it on their Genesis and you'll be able to tell.

I had a similar situation with NBA JAM. The REV 00 had Charles Barkley playing for the Suns and was said to be very rare. I just kind of assumed he was only in a few hundred copies and I would never find one. But, low and behold, I just bought the cheapest complete/decent shape copy I saw in eBay stores and I turned it on and BAM! Barkley! Also, I found out my Game Gear version of NBA JAM I bought back in the day is also a Barkley version and I bet its even rarer. Its only too bad all my valuable games are games I would never want to sell, if only I could stumble across a crate of Final Fantasy VIIs, I'd have no problem selling off that overrated bastard of a game for $80.

did you try cleaning it? I mean, did you ever test it? I have a mint copy of Streets of Rage 2 that only boots about 50% of the time (or at least until I figured out I was actually pushing it down too far), I think part of it is that the ROM board is a little thinner than usual.

It's kind of like that, I just checked There are 4 versions of Revenge of Shinobi, and the first two and last two versions appear identical to me.

As the ROMs label it we have REV0 thru REV3.

REV0 and REV1 have "SEGA 1989 / MUSIC (C) 1989 YUZO KOSHIRO" at the bottom of the title screen.
REV2 and REV3 do not have that text, but instead have it right after the SEGA logo screen, along with a notice that Spider-man belongs to Marvel Comics.

So, in your hunt for the original version, you need one with the copyright text on the title screen. And then it's either Revision 0 or Revision 1.

NO. I had one with the copyright text on the screen, and it HAD NO BATMAN.

I'm not sure if you're NOing because you don't have Revision 0 or NOing because you think I'm wrong, but I'll assume the latter.

You have Revision 1, which did replace Batman:

REV0: Everyone's in. Copyright on title screen.
REV1: Batman is out. Copyright on title screen.
REV2: Godzilla is now a skeleton dinosaur. Spider-man is still in, but copyright info added. Copyright is after Sega screen.
REV3: Unsure what's different about this one from REV2, probably bug fixes.

    I have Rev0. I had Rev1 and 2, but I destroyed them.
