    17days,

Do you guys over at Play N' Trade actually take in customer's systems, fix them locally, and give them the same systems back? Just wondering because GameStop will fix consoles, but it involves shipping the console out to somewhere in Texas where they usually just hit it with various tools until it powers on, and then send it back to a random other GameStop. It'd be nice if I had a local place to get like my PS2 or something fixed. Well by PS2 I mean my DC, but you get the point.

The most robust CD based system I've ever seen is the Saturn. I have literally never come across one that didn't work. I own about 6 of them, 5 are the oval and 1 (my primary player) is the round button model. One of the 5 is also brand new in the box (I got it from a video game store that was going out of business, had the damn thing on their shelf in the box brand spanking new...never sold and I grabbed it for $35 YEAH!) I got one saturn at a garage sale, it was peppered with white paint, there were soda stains, several chips/cracks in the casing, it was very abused. The damn thing works like new.

The cartridge slots (strangely enough) are the least reliable part of the system. Then again, only if strange carts are used is this the case. The Interact cards ruin the pin connectors for instance...but since 80% of Saturn owners never had the memory cartridges the slots are usually in perfect condition.

Sega deserves a good chunk of credit, their build quality has always been fantastic. I've never owned a Sega product that felt cheaply constructed, or like it was going to fall apart instantly. I would venture to say that their worst built product ever is the Master System 1 and even then it's a pretty sturdy system.

I have a dead round button Saturn and my white one is acting funny now as well.

damn...damn damn damn! I pray to the saturn gods that mine do not die...this is why I own 6 of the stupid things. Backups are necessary when it comes to CD systems.

I guess it depends. I do all the repairs myself because I'm a 1337 haXoR with Engineering $k11Lz. There is no real training program so you just kind of have to know going in, otherwise there is little they will fix. Maybe other play n trades would send it off, but they would still give you the same system back. If your dreamcast is acting up, screw it, buy a cordless one on eBay for $10 shipped
