    Default TG-16 Help

I was wondering any TG16 owners could help me out. I just got one but it came with a Genesis RF switch, but I can't get it working with it. The picture is staticy and I can sort of get an image if I wiggle the connection. Do you have to have an official TG16 RF cable?

I believe actually this is a common problem. I have had a few and they all do that.

I use a Nintendo RF unit on my TurboGrafx(even though mine has a TurboBooster...), and I would assume that the RF unit inside your TurboGrafx may be coming loose. I had many Sega Genesis Model 1s do that to me, where either the RF unit crapped out entirely or works when the wire is held in a certain position. I would say you're having that same problem, so you either have to:

    A) Replace the RF unit in the system
    B) Find a TurboBooster
    C) If your TV has SCART inputs, modify the unit to output RGB
    D) If you're interested, get a TurboGrafx CD(this provides A/V output, as well as add the ability to play TurboGrafx CDs, PC Engine CDs/Super CDs, and Duo CDs-you will obviously need a System Card, preferably a Super System Card 3.0)

    Yep.

I found that the NES RF works much better than the sega ones. My offical NEC one crapped out and i used a spare NES one and never looked back. I want a turbo booster...but actaully finding one or being able to afford one is the hard part.

Thanks guys. I tried the NES RF unit and it works much better!

Now I have another question if you don't mind..

One of the cards I have (Victory Run), has trouble booting up sometimes. Is it okay to clean the contacts of the cards with Isopropyl alcohol?

Windex does a better job. I always use that to clean any cartridges I have.

Isn't Windex corrosive? I don't suppose it matters though if you wipe it off though.

I usually clean the slot by soaking the pins of a cheap hucard with alcohol, inserting and removing it from the system several times, then wiping the hucard connector with a paper towel or qtip. Repeat as necessary. Don't forget to allow drying time for the card slot, since you really can't wipe it off. I had a ton of crud in mine, which is odd since I rarely use hucards, I normally just have an Arcade Card shoved in there.

Do you have the original back cover? If you found a connector that fits the TG16 unit, you could make the composite and stereo cable yourself and have the back connector hide it. A turbo booster *plus* would a the way to go if you can afford it. The plus version had battery back up for games that support it. It's probably cheaper than the TGCD addon. But then again, the CD addon gives you much bigger library (can play import CD games without a converter).
