Was it ever cloned? It would be neat to find like, a Brazilian clone of one.

There hasn't been any new GameGear that plays Game Gear carts other than the original Sega model. With all these 20in1 handhelds and TV plug ins, your stuck with the games they give you sadly.
I think Sega really missed a good oppurtunity by not updating the GG hardware. It was easily powerful enough to compete with Gameboy Color, Neo Geo Pocket, it just needed a more modern screen, lower form factor and so on. As much as I would like to play GG games such as Shinobi, I just can't stand using the machine with its crappy screen and extreme thirst for voltage.
I have a Coleco handheld, and I can say it's only okay. There's one game on it that doesn't really work unless you have an arcade stick, Astro Warrior. I can get to the first boss then it's jus ttoo hard with a small control set like it has. There's a great Colmns on it, though, love that one.
Agreed, the Game Gear was abandoned too early, it could have been updated and beat out the others. Maybe Sega's dealings with TecToy and at@games will give us a re-release of the GG, as it did with the Genesis.
Better yet, Nomad!

This loks nice, but it uses proprietary carts. And according to the desription there are only five of them.
Close, though. I think I actually saw something like this for sale at made-in-china.com.In the system are used the original cartridges, not compatible with the stationary Of sega Of megadrive.
yep, here.
