The term cassette was very widely used for cartridges even in the 16-Bit age in Germany. The more "advanced" gamers called them Modul, the stupid masses Kassette.

Game cartridges are still called Kassett here, usually Kollane Kassett (yellow casette, the color of majority of FC pirate carts).

Megadrive and SMS carts are pretty much exactly the same size as a music cassette in a standard box. You can fit a cassette in a sms/md game case, not sure why you would want to, but you can.
same for FC carts.
