I hate to contradict the defeat of a stereotype, but in all honesty, for a large number of Americans you were correct.

Thx, and if you ever decide to become a colony again just call me! :P
There isn't anything wrong with loving one's country, it's just that "being a patriot" has certainly changed in meaning since 9/11. Apparently all I have to do is buy a "Support the Troops" bumper-sticker and say "if you don't like it, then you can get out!" whenever someone has a criticism.

The greatest threat to nationalism is the truth. But an informed nation can choose better leaders, who can lead to a more respectable nation, which leads to a higher national identity, which equates to nationalism! The circle of life

I don't think you were completely wrong in your original assumption. I think the 2004 re-election of Bush supports your assumption. But not all of us are uninformed, we're just the one's who are attacked for being unpatriotic.

In a post 9/11 United States, wanting to improve one's nation is seen as not loving one's country. Silly, isn't it?

Good and bad (sometimes ugly) I love this country and I want better things for it.

But I do recall having the "unpatriotic" name flung around because I didn't blindly follow dumbass and his invasion of Iraq.

I love this the natural beauty of this country, and even some of the people. What I don't love is a government that treats people like idiots and keeps them in the dark and in a constant crisis mode so they can get away with shit.

Our government is Rogue and has enslaved us with reality shows, income tax, and dumbing down our primary education.

Books to read: Brave New World, 1984

"There will one day be an enemy that cannot be seen, cannot be defeated, and this effige will be used to strip the last freedoms from the world while looting the treasures of the land."

Its a book. Required college reading. Here is the obligatory wiki link

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_(novel)

Basically it's along the lines of 1984 but it was written in 1921.

Well, the reason I bring that up and I should have explained it better but TV and Motion Pictures has conditioned all of us to not only look up to idiots BUT to act like them (Monkey See, Monkey Do).

One of my professors told me that people in the 14-1600's used to strive to be geniuses, now they strive to be idiots.

Also I fear that this will be the drama queen generation with all these reality shows where every little thing turns into a dramatic confrontation based on emotions alone instead of logic and rationalism.
