I have to say, my hands were itching as well a few moments ago, after watching that Jew Wario video. Also a few clicks away, but I canceled at the last moment. There's just too many games for me to play right now and in the near future, and money doesn't grow on trees either.
Thanks guys.
@Joe, you crack me up.
@Devil N, my prerogative exactly. I almost bought it and, then, suddenly, realized there are about five Mint CIB titles on the Genny I want that I can still get, even on evilBay, for just under $48 put together. Good call.
[EDIT] I just happened to do just that. I decided to redirect my funds towards another Genny cause. It was actually $58 (that's after SnH), but still, not a bad price for five Mint CIB Genny Titles on evilBay:
1. Chakan: The Forever Man
2. Animaniacs
3. Cool Spot
4. Hook
5. The Lost Vikings
The point is, with so many great titles I've yet to play, it might be a while till I decide upon a $48 Wukong copy. Maybe next time.

Good purchase I think. But let me give you a little scenario about what my experience with Chakan was like.
Die. Die. Die. Die. Dead. Die. Die. Die. Small progress made. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Beat the end boss. Get to the secret end boss. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Die. Finally win, only to find out that the game doesn't have an ending.
I'd take Wukong over those games any day, but to each their own.
Same here. I have to say that I was positively surprised with Animaniacs though!

The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.
Then we set about developing killer games.
- Hayao Nakayama, Mega Drive Collected Works (p. 17)
I think $58 is overpaying a bit for those 5 games, check for lots even if they have games you dont want at the moment. If you buy 5 games you're likely to pay $4-5 in shipping for each of them so that's $25 already, then each game is likely $5+. You can find lots with 10+ games for under $30.
"1. Chakan: The Forever Man
2. Animaniacs
3. Cool Spot
4. Hook
5. The Lost Vikings"
As individual games these are all good, I would probably say they're mostly better than Wukong. I never could get into Chakan though, it kicked my ass. Animaniacs I had as a kid, solid platformer that can be pretty tough. Cool Spot is another game I had growing up, good platformer that will test your skill. I didn't play Hook until recently and that was the SNES version, nothing amazing but it's playable. Lost Vikings is an underrated game but I think it might require a 6-button controller to play it with any success sort of like Comix Zone.
As far as the "bang for your buck" thing goes, for $48 you could get a SNES + game(s) or PS1 + game(s). If you're a collector though it'd probably be in your best interest to pick it up soon in case it sells out and there isn't another run. The 1st prints of Beggar Prince are going for $100+ so that $48 tag might seem like a lot now but at worst if you got it and didn't like it you could flip it for the current value and get your money back or hold onto it a while and see what happens.
Doubtful. These were Mint CIB titles. Good luck finding them for less online.
P.S.> I just bought another seven titles for just under $60 again. All mint CIB.
P.S.S.> Once again, you're just giving me loose, scratched, ripped or non-Mint prices, at best, on these titles. The only one of those titles that probably would go for just $5 is Animaniacs. But that's at a brick and mortar store.
P.S.S.S.> Why would I want to buy another PS1? I have six of them. Why would I want to buy anything other than original Mint CIB Genny titles, at any rate?If you didn't hear/read around already, I'm going for a full Mint CIB Genny collection. I'd say five games gets me closer to that goal than just the one.
P.S.S.S.S.> In other words, it's irrelevant to my scenario to point-out the negatives about any particular title on the Genny library, I'm still getting all of them eventually.
P.S.S.S.S.S> I might just get it eventually, though. I agree with getting it for just $48 versus the $200 plus tag that's already going on with BP. But I still have so many games to reach for that will be under $15 that I can still get even online. So maybe once I've gone through all of those, I might just look into Super Fighter Team. If you want to get technical, I'm actually waiting till I actually purchase all the Genny RPGs. So far, I'm only half way there.

Everything about The Lost Vikings is better than everything about Legend of Wukong: the graphics, music by Matt Furniss, gameplay, challenge etc. etc.

Well, thank you Zebbe.
That's about right, for complete boxes and manuals. Though, none of those games do anything for me. I have Animaniacs (complete), but only because someone gave it to me (and I never play it). For all the bad stuff I've heard about Wukong (pretty much just Joe's review, I looked for other reviews but couldn't find anything negative about it), I'd most likely play it over those games.
Kind of a snub to post that in this thread though, don't you think? I mean, is there a point relative to this thread? Just comes off as tasteless. Maybe it's just me.
^ Wukong is an average RPG at best, and that likely makes a lot of people happy since there isn't a ton of RPG stuff on the Genesis, much less new to US players. But when you judge it against other RPGs on the system or even as a game by itself, it falls well below average. I can't think of anything really positive to say about it besides that other than it has fewer bugs than Beggar Prince (which was just embarrassing). It certainly breaks no new ground either by game design or technically. Save your money for Star Odyssey or preferably Pier Solar.
Ehh, I've played plenty of RPG's that fall into that category. So I'm probably safe/guarded against that aspect (..for the most part. PSIII killed me. I hate that game with a passion), I've even played ho-hum JRPGs in Japanese. So almost anything in English, in which I can understand, is a definite plus IMO. Since I have neither BP or PS this xmas, I'm just gonna play through Startling Odyssey II machine translated patch.
Two games on my list actually. I never bought any 'homebrew' or such games before. Almost pre-ordered PS (almost ordered BP as well). Money wasn't exactly 'spendable' on other stuff during the pre-order enrollment thingy, so I held off. Regretting it now. Hopefully there will be another run somewhat soon. Being coop'd up in doors during a cold month of January, drinking coffee and playing a new RPG for my beloved classic system, would have been a great thing. I'm really interested in SO too. Something about it, that I just love (I don't care about the high encounter rate. After all, I've beaten PSIISave your money for Star Odyssey or preferably Pier Solar.).
I've beaten Phantasy Star 2 as well... at least twice. Sword of Vermillion only once, though. I doubt Star Odyssey has music that is good as either of those games, though, and that's one of the things that kept me going. We'll see.
